When you start a stage, you choose one of your arcanas from your total collection to start with. Then at 11th min, a mini-boss spawns that drops a purple chest that gives you a second arcana (choice of 4 randomly selected from your collection, can be rerolled with reroll powerup) assuming you have an extra arcana to select from. Then at 21nd min, another mini-boss spawns that gives you a third arcana if available.
Queen Sigma is an exception, she gets multiple arcanas at particular levels rather than drops from mini-bosses.

most characters get 3 arcana cards . althout in some stages 4th arcana card can be brought from merchant .
queen sigma got 5 cards durring leveling up eventualy
