It literally took me 30 min of doing nothing but walking down that stage until I FINALLY found what's down there, and when I did there wasn't enough time left to kill it to get the unlock.

Hyper makes you move much faster, as does having a certain other secret to work with. And they stack.

No, you only needed a faster character like Mask of the Red Death to get to where you needed to go in around 20 to 25 minutes which is plenty of time to kill the target.

Either upgrade the wings fully on normal mode or just play Hyper Mode with a really OP character...

There's that one red devil guy (can't remember his name) and his base speed is like +40% which is the highest of any level 1 character aside from Queen Sigma.

If you're working towards small goals then yeah he's your best bet on normal. Just keep walking, get wings and make sure you get the attract orb... but I mean that's kind of a give in any way.... attract orb should just be base kit honestly as it's such a necessity for maximizing efficiency and XP.

Make sure to get the Garlic, that red heart thing that complements it so you can get the upgraded version. Get the holy water to complement the attract orb mod... also get the crown and spinach. King Bible is a good choice too if you pair it with Spellbinder.

With that combo alone you can pretty much do anything really.

Mask of the Red Death is the Secret character earned by "settling the score with the Reaper". While some niche builds are capable of killing Death, the most accessible (and currently intended way) is to first acquire the Yellow Sign, then collect and evolve the items that are revealed by owning it. Gold and Silver Ring will tell you outright what weapon you need to take with them (Wear With Clock Lancet), but Metaglio Left and Right will not (the answer is Laurel). The resulting evolved items are designed to be overpowered enough to counter Death's enormous healthpool and devastating damage, and having even one of the two will give you a special reward upon defeating Death.

Yeah, no idea. People say they hit the time limit though, which doesn't make sense to me.
