Boss rash area buttons

Can someone explain the two buttons on either side of the boss rash stage please.
On the left is a blue button with a picture of an hourglass on it and on the right there is a button with a skull on it, when a new wave starts the buttons disappear.

The stage time seemed to jump ahead by some (30?) seconds when I walked on the blue one though that might not be true, but I didn't notice any change when walking on the red button.

red one with a skull spawns more enemies.

the button on the left side will jump you ahead to the next spawn wave time wise, the button on the right will resummon the current wave

the one on the left also spawns a green EXP gem
