Arca is a fine character for this, you want offensive passives like his cooldown reduction and him starting with fire wand also means you'll definitely be picking up spinach. Grab empty tome, too.
Dump all your early levels into upgrading your first 2-3 weapons, you want to start snowballing as soon as you can. Killing stuff faster means more exp for more levels to help you kill stuff faster, so having a strong start is important!
Don't bother with laurel+lancet until all your other weapon slots are maxed out. Prioritize weapons over upgrading passives as well (though grab the ones you need for your evos of course). You should get enough exp to max everything out, so don't stress too much!
Arca is perfectly fine to use, so long as you have the needed damage to kill things quickly so you can get weapons and upgrades during the run. Santa Water is a great first weapon to get. Max it out right away. King Bible or Garlic are great early AoE options for fast wave clearing, note they do fall off later (which is completely fine once you evolve Santa Water).
The stage you're on will determine the ideal upgrades to get to ensure you're maximizing the upgrades you can have. The most important one to have will be Attract Orb since this will help you collect XP. Crown is personal preference as you can easily level everything without it a 30minute run.
Arcanas are your choice, I recommend Awake if you're having a hard time keeping your health up.
