Non-red deaths don't take damage?

So, still trying to get Toastie.
Encountered blue and green Deaths in the Tower and the Bone Zone and the Boss Rash.
They don't trigger damage numbers or flash white when getting hit. They just disappear after a while.
They did take visible damage before I finished the fifth stage, tho.
Noticed that Exdash in the secrets menu still shows the question mark instead of a image of the unlocked character like every other secret character does. But there is a check mark and he is unlocked.
Is there something else I'm missing or Is that a bug?

Yeah, they're immune to conventional attacks. You need an instakill to get them, which is why people recommend the Dairy Plant for this because it has one built in.

They are immune? Pretty sure they took damage before. Maybe my memory is faulty and it was only happening on the fifth map.

Well, if it's about instakill only then yeah, Dairy Plant or pentagram is the way to go I guess.

Rosary or Gorgeous Moon only as Pentagram just deletes Stalker outright without giving you the Toastie prompt in the lower right corner of your screen.

Yeah, they are not immune to conventional damage, they can simply take quite a bit of it. Instakill by way of a mine cart, Rosary, or Gorgeous Moon is the only way to unlock Toastie. Pentagram can work, but it's a gamble, because you need the hit to be the good one (blue) that doesn't delete items.

I'm hesitant to call these "facts" because there's a chance I've got something wrong, but this is how I think these things work.

I've noticed in some of my gold farming runs that corridor and shroud appear to kill the stalker and the drowner as well.

Queen Sigma can kill Stalker and Drowner as well.

Run pentagram if you dont have Queen Sigma. Pentagram should proc before drowner/stalker get away.

Pentagram isn't ideal. Either save and prepare a Rosary or better still evolve Pentagram into Gorgeous Moon.

Yeah. Sorry, usually when i say pentagram, i mean the moon, but you can still build it to do it fast. Definitely recommend playing as Christine, since she can build it fast. Hes there for a couple minutes and a max tome, max pentagram can trigger within that time frame.

Well, Gorgeous Moon didn't work. No Toastie, the stalker just ran away after a hit.
So last resort is hoping for dumb luck that a rosary drops. That said I have seen one in the past 10 games...

Try using the Mine Carts that spawn on the Dairy Plant map, they will kill the Stalker. It can be a bit of a pain to line him up with the tracks without triggering the carts, but it is doable without depending on a rosary to drop.

PS: You may know this: I believe that the Stalker's spawn rate is affected by Luck, so the lower your luck the better your chance of him spawning in a match.

I did mine in Map 5 back when it was first introduced, before Great Gospel was a thing. I think you can do it by finding a rosary on Gallo tower and staying near it till the crab boss spawns, situate yourself under the crab to force Drowner to appear, then grab the rosary.
