Can't get enough levels to get crimson shroud/infinite corridor

What's the proper strategy for getting those items? I can never get enough levels to fully upgrade the items while still having a good enough build to survive.

Is it that you're not killing enough? Offence tends to be the best defence in this game. Phieraggi is, in my opinion, one of the best weapons. I recommend it and Hellfire, especially with arcanas XIX (Heart of Fire) and XI (Waltz of Pearls).

Or if the problem is that you're not getting enough experience, pick up Crown and Attractorb, and maybe Pentagram as well. But don't get Pentagram in the early game.

Have you upgrade the permanent power up (from PowerUp menu) ?

Normally you should have enough Exp from the last minute of the game to upgrade totally the 4 item, even if you take them kinda late
And you're supposed to be able to end a run (or at least survive until minute 29) without those two item evolved into shroud/corridor, so I suppose the issue is that you fail to survive the pervious wave period.
Maybe you forgot about the permanent upgrade ?

Well, if he isn't lvling enough presumably a lot of arcanas are not available either. Max agree with Vex though that you need to prioritise offence. My "standard method" for getting both has me loading down with 6 regular passives and THEN snagging the 4 pick up ones you need. Not to mention you can fill up on weapons and skip the laurel or clock so long as one of the expected evolutions combines later, gives more power up front, later, and leaves space. Killing is always more important even than exp collection as all skipped exp gems will combine into a red at the edge of your screen for later pick up, leave a trail of experience behind and you'll get it all eventually, every single one.

Just to be sure: You're using hyper mode, yes? Because there's no point in even trying for high level if you're not.

What map are you playing on, one with a 15-minute timer (e.g., Moongolow) or one with a 30-minute timer? If the latter, then you should be having no problems with this. If the former, then I find that I typically only have time for one of them and not both.

Are you using the "green tree" arcanum? You unlock it by surviving 31 minutes on the Mad Forest stage. This arcanum automatically teleports all of the items on the stage to you every two minutes. I use this arcanum pretty much always, so that I don't actually have to run across the map. (You don't necessarily need to start with this arcanum; I often grab it at the 11-minute mark.)
