WTF AM I DOING WRONG?
How many times do you have to play a round before you start getting past level 20? I'm stuck dying around lvl 20 EVERY SINGLE TIME and I think I've played this "game" like 20-30 times.

There's NOTHING I can do when a skeleton or ghost army comes. Nothing. They are inescapable.

So, I ask you, how many times do you have to play this game before you start breaking through barriers?

50? 100?

If that's the case, I'm uninstalling.

Assuming you are playing the Mad Forest one of the first things I did in addition to Garlic (for faster leveling) is to upgrade the whip asap.

Level doesn't really mean anything. What minute is that and what map?

Other question I would as is that what character(s) did you unlock and try to play with?

Yes, you can farm some maps for coins that you can invest into powerups but for me that wasn't really huge (and I did not really got too much powerups before getting through first level). For me was most important to understand what skills play nice with each other (and not only the matter of evolution but also how one skill would benefit from the other). Once I got hang on it I would just die only if RNG gods are playing tricks on me.

I had to play about 10 games to get the hang of it. In all of them now I get to 30min.

Garlic is the new players best friend. It'll carry you through a lot of the early nonsense and get you levels off bat waves which will result in more power. Focus on a few weapons instead of many if possible.

Unlock the library, and farm that for the next 30 hours. It's a significantly easier and more balanced map.

Are you getting to 13-15 minutes and then dying? That's very typical. I had to read a few guides here to get a grip on the weapons. The first time I survived past 15 minutes was a game where I managed to evolve 4 weapons and it was the first time I managed to evolve anything.

Personally I would recommend using Gennaro. His knives take some getting used to, but being able to aim your starting weapon can help a lot, I think. The whip is a great defensive weapon because it has knock-back and can be aimed at breakables unlike the wand or the cross. Garlic allows you to walk through bats in the Mad Forest, but isn't so good in the Library, the 2nd stage. Still, you should get at least one of Garlic, Holy Bible or Santa Water, the defences. My personal go-to offensive weapon is the Fire Wand, because it can melt bosses or groups of enemies. I think that's what you need, a somewhat levelled Fire Wand to melt a group of skeletons and then you try and run through the gap. For the passives, everyone recommends the Empty Tome because it reduces cool-downs.

As long as you have unlocked the skills and their evolutions, amount of time played is irrelevant. The levels can be beaten without any points placed in meta-progression, so when you have access to all the weapons and passives the rest is a skill issue.

What you "are doing wrong" is blaming the game instead of taking responsibility for learning how to play.

To me every time it goes the same. Arround 15-17 minute mark I either die horribly ( low level skills/ bad build / low damage ) or I have correct skills set and for the remaining 15 minutes game is boring and everything arround me just dies. ( usualy AoE spam ).

So far, this is kinda major flaw of the game, at least for me. The fact that with correct skills "Late game" is actualy so much less fun.

I would say first 10-15 minutes of stage 1 is when this game is the best and everything what is happening after that requires some serious rebalancing or rework.

I survived for 30 minutes on my 3rd or 4th attempt. At 20th minute you should have at least one evolved weapon, it's the key.

Here's some stuff I'd have liked to have known in my early days:

  • Don't ignore the Power Up section. Any time you get cash, throw it on stuff in here. If you decide later on that you wish you'd spent your money differently/more efficiently/for unlocking characters, you can refund it all whenever you want, however much you want, for free, so experiment.
  • With that said - upgrading Greed will speed up how quickly you can level up everything else, so it's a good early pick... even if it doesn't directly increase your survivability.
  • Enemy's health is based on your level, so if you're coping with the enemies for a time, maybe don't rush for XP, just enjoy the carnage.
  • Don't worry about "missing" XP gems. The game can only track so many gems, and after a certain point starts (invisibly) combining gems into red gems, and between that and the pickup that absorbs all stray gems, no XP is actually ever really lost. (This also means that... and everyone's going to disagree with me here... the Attractorb is a complete waste of an item slot, aside from the related evolution. The limit to how quickly you level isn't how quickly you GRAB XP, it's how quickly you CREATE it by killing enemies.)
  • A lot of advice you hear on these forums doesn't apply when you're at a low level. For example, everyone says the Bible is the best weapon in the game, which it is... Once you've pumped enough cash into boosting projectile speed (rotation), duration, and getting the extra projectile. Until then, it's actually pretty awful until you've levelled it up a lot, so you probably don't want it unless you already have a good setup. Garlic is great at early levels, an excellent run starter, but obsolete at higher levels/plenty of upgrades.
  • Prioritise your upgrades on levelups - If you see something new you want, grab it while it's available. Then, focus on upgrading specific things - don't try to keep everything "balanced", get your best stuff maxed.
  • Chests dropped before the 10 minute mark won't evolve weapons. If you're wanting to evolve your weapons, save chests dropped after then until your weapons are max level rather than just grabbing them immediately.
  • Finally - it *does* get easier as you upgrade. You're not doing anything wrong, it just really is tough before you're sufficiently upgraded.

Garlic and the Bible
All the other stuff like cross and knife and whip are good too but garlic and the bible that will take you through the skelly horde.
But they can't be lvl 1 you need to prioritize them somewhat.
So a couple of levels in bible and garlic.

on the point of chests on stage 1 and 2 its only chests that spawn after 10min that will evolve weapons(except for the bat at 1min on stage 1 that one can evolve). so no reason to save them
