Honestly, you are always going to lose xp. Either by walking away and leaving enemies behind or by leaving xp behind because you go in the other direction and don't find a vacuum orb.
So picking it up when higher hp enemies start taking more time to get rid of is certainly not the worst idea.
Yes! I feel like stretching out the weapon slots makes it harder to upgrade. At least one weapon is more or less useless in the end (wont be possible to evolve unless you omit other good passives)
It doesn't make you survive longer or anything, one screen clear lasts maybe 3 seconds.
I'd argue laurel would give you more money at the end because it lets you aggressively push into enemies to collect drops.
So basically you would need to max this with your last consecutive level ups while not having this before that.
Anything else is almost certainly just a loss of money.
So it would be interesting to see how much that xp-loss would amount to compare to how much more xp you get by getting some breathing room and wiping the whole screen. At level 8 you only lose 20% of the items, so if you are forced to constantly run into one direction because tougher enemies push you it might actually mean you can pick up more.
Probably better for the forest as the enemy are tougher there.
Yeah the laurel is better for venturing into the mass but the pentagram makes sure everything dies which at least I have not found possible to do with the other weapons (not enough dps to take out as many enemies as the pentagram does). Right after the pentagram goes of its safe to venture to collect all the red gems
With all the upgrades from main menu and some specific weapon+powerup setups, you can full clear your screen quite constantly. Yesterday I was doing a run with Hellfire+evolved Bible+Heavenly Sword+Tracer+Water and I was constantly clearing full screens even around 30min mark.
But for that, you do need to get lucky to get all of the highest dps weapons + powerups, which does not happen in most runs.
I am not sure you are losing boss chests. I did grab pentagram once and I think I remembered it popping a boss and there being a boss chest there. Though the boss could have been killed moments before pentagram went off.
Edit: Pentagram also says it works with luck, so that might also be a factor.
it kills treasure chests. I for certain know because I killed a boss and I was trying to save the treasure chest for later. The pentagram procc'd and it deleted the treasure chest from the screen.
its kills on every take everything and every 60 secounds (minus 10 on upgrade)
and if you take it early and get to level it up early it just carries you on level 6
