weapon tier list.
heres my opinions on the weapons. there power levels kindof fluctuate from start to end. like the magic wand starts good, falls apart in the middle, and comes back home decent.
axe starts horrible, but just gets better and better, for example.

whip. rank 1. c. fires an attack directly in front of you. midling cooldown. medium damage.
scales with aoe, cooldown reduction, +projectiles. rank 2. gains another projectile strikin behind you as well. b+ rank 8. only gains damage, cd, with level. b
duplication ring is a major buff to whip. as the whip is a projectile. extra attacks then spawn above first attacks. front, then back.
Evolve. whip gains life leech and crit. b+. not bad, but the life leech is largely pointless in a winning run, especially with other better forms of survival.

magic wand. rank1. b. targets nearest target. makes those first kills easy. overall, can be controlled well. low damage rank 8. c- gains additional projectiles, and +1 pierce iirc.. fires pretty rapidly. good for anything that gets in melee with you at this point. however, is ineffective as an aoe killer while leveling up.
scales with cd reduc, +proj,
Evolve. zero CD. nonstop rapid fire. good secondary weapon as this point, to focus fire anything that gets in melee.

fire wand. rank 1. d-. fires 3 single target fireballs at a random target. high damage. random target makes them about useless in keeping you alive. high damage is useless when they fire off versus some trash that would die to one hit of anything. they don't pierce or aoe explode on hit. rank 8. just more damage. d-- awful. also do not gain projectiles.
evolve. they pierce now.. finally not useless. c-
fix? homing? aoe explosion on impact/ground effect?

daggers. rank 1. c. fires a low damage dagger in one of 8 directions you are pressing. low cd, fires often. added ranks add more projectiles. rank 8. adds +2 pierce. b+
much like magic wand. end up rapid fire dps. and not bad of a secondary weapon.
evolve. no cd. attacks even faster then magic wand.

axe. rank 1. d- fires a single axe up.. which pierces 2 targets, then drops down. high damage. rank 2. adds another proc. much better. c tier. rank 8. adds 3 proj by rank 8, and +2 pierce. quite good at this point. A tier. scales with cd reduc, aoe, +proj,
Evolve. 360 100% piercing sickles... medium cd. S tier.

boomarang. rank 1. b. fires a 100% piercing boomarang towards nearest enemy. very short range. moderate damage. then, boomarangs back, and goes off screen. completely better then magic wand. ranks add more projectiles. 5 iirc by rank 8. s tier weapon.
very strong at clearing packs.
evolve. s-. turns the boomarangs into a single sword. can crit. hits hard, but largely a side grade really. its not much better then the basic boomarangs, and won't win the game.

bible. speaking off.. rank 1. a tier. single bible rotates around, fading in and out. rank 2, adds another. +duration increases its uptime, as well as CD reduc. +projectiles add more coverage. you can time the fading in and out. push when its up, and fall back when its down. by rank 8 its about 75% uptime, with 6 books giving almost perfect cover. duplication ring, and +cd, +duration, even better, with nearly 90% uptime. S+ tier.
evolve. 100% uptime. SS+ tier.
area makes the books spin farther out from you. which is why one of those "melee" skills is useful.

dove and ebony. each fires in arcs around you, in opposite directions. c tier. hard to control aoe. not particularly effective. like the bible.. but with bigger gaps in coverage.

santa water. rank 1. a tier. increased duration and proj. rank 8. s tier. very good weapon. ground effect makes up for random targeting.

runetracer. rank 1. a+ tier. random targeting. 100% pierce. scales with duration, cd, aoe, and faster projectiles. duration makes the rune last longer, while faster proj, makes them travel further. adding projectiles as it levels. rank 8. s+ tier. Extremely effective in clearing packs, despite its low direct damage. it almost always ensures you have a safe passage to travel to, as it cuts linear paths.

lit ring. rank 1. b tier. ignores duration, and proj speed. rank 8. b tier. just mediocre the whole time. doesn't clear fast enough to justify focusing on.

garlic. rank 1. z tier. low damage. small radius. rank 8. gains aoe size, and damage. still bad. d tier. wholly inferior to the book.
fix? needs a large knockback.

clock lancet. rank 1. d- tier. seems kindof useless. rank 8. just gains duration, still useless.
fix? brittle? targets take bonus damage and shatter aoe damage on kill?

laurel. rank 1. s tier. damage shield. scales with duration and cd. gains add charges with ranks. rank 8. 3 charges. s+ tier. (although the 2 charges at rank 5 iirc? is just as op)
fix? almost too good. instead of added charges, perhaps explode on impact?

bone. actually have not tested it enough to really give one.

I did a few more runs to get garlic another chance. and test bone.

garlic is still garbage. I don't get why anyone thinks its not. kills the bats in forest... and thats about it. far far too weak everywhere else. a slot that could be something else.

bone. tier b. rank 8 b+ with lots of proj, and duration. hits ok damage. but, just not that great. its no magic wand, upgraded. and certainly not boomarang, runetracer, book or santa water.

santa water alot of people here seem to be really sleeping on. its not random. it throws the vials in a 360 arc around you in sequence, with preset distance. so, with enough duration, and +proj, it forms a constant circle of fire water around you. its arguably better then bible.

pigeons. gave them another shot too. yeah weak. they deal more burst dps then water, but instead of the constant aoe, its more targeted. the more constant aoe of water, book, or even axe/scythe is just better. both pigeons combined is decent... but requires 2 weapons upgraded to match the power of 1 book, or 1 water.

I skipped pentagram the first time as well, didnt really consider it a weapon.
pentagram rank 1 tier... b. rank 8 tier A+ probably a surprise to people. the misunderstand it. first of, higher ranks don't destroy items. lower ranks do, thats bad right? well sure. but, how many times have you left exp on the ground, you can't get to? or, how many times have you hit level 99+ and stopped getting weapon upgrades, and just where getting gold/meat? so yes, its underrated.

Magic Wand. I get it and it's evolution every single time. Nothing else is as ridiculously reliable as it is as a main weapon.
Whip. I actually quite like it.......and then it evolves and doesn't take projectile increases anymore, suddenly consigning it into absolute DPS-less trash. Easily the worst evolution, the only one that makes the weapon *worse*. A lot worse.

Evolved whip still take projectile increases from the duplicator ring. I got an evolved whip with three strikes and it was quite good. It also provides a really solid amount of healing, letting you survive even when there are gaps in your ability to keep enemies away.

I just finished my first 30 minute run with evolved knife + garlic in the forest. The garlic is excellent against the bat swarms and, if you get some damage upgrades, the ghost swarms as well. If you get a few aoe upgrades it can also prevent both swarms from shoving more dangerous enemies into your character by killing the bats/ghosts doing the shoving through the tougher enemies. The last thing I noticed was that the hit-stun from the garlic was just long enough to allow me to walk straight through densely packed enemies after the knife cleared a path.
I think the garlic was level 8, with some spinach and candelabra. I also got a laurel with two charges that helped a bit and saints water at a low level. I got the water late and it didn't do that much.
So while the garlic isn't in the league of the higher performing weapons I would definitely not describe it as garbage.

Santa water isn't so much arguably better than bible as explicitly, and significantly :V

Just did a hyper library run with the skelebro that happened to have both bible and water. End stats (steam didn't want to screenshot it for some reason, though I've got one, and the numbers are probably a little off due to the game's stat rounding giving me less than ideal data, ha) came out to:

King Bible : 7.8k, 12:01, DPS: 10.8
Unholy Vespers: 81.8k, 12:33, DPS: 108
Together: 89.6k, 24:34, DPS: 60.8

Santa Water: 1.1M , 29.38, DPS: 625.1

With the functionality (keeping things away from you in a circle) basically identical, except the water pushed them off to the corners of the map instead of just a little circle around you. Most of the run (especially in the late game, last 5-10 min, where I stopped moving as much) the bible did little to nothing because the water+rest of it was keeping everything outside the range of the vespers, heh. Plus, if I hadn't had the bible I could have picked up... some other evolvable one. Or anything, really.

... for the curious, my other numbers were:
fire wand: 59.5k, 8:15, DPS: 120.1
Hellfire: 2.9M, 17:31, DPS: 2.8k
Together: ~3M, 25:46, DPS: 1.9K

Magic wand: 119.9k, 14:22, DPS: 139.1
Holy Wand: 916.9k, 9:54, DPS: 1.5k
Together: ~1.036M, 24:16, DPS: 641.9

Bone: 1.8M, 30:03, DPS: 997.5
Runetracer: 3.4M, 29:50, DPS: 1.9k

Items: Duplicator, Spinach, Spellbinder, Bracer, Attractorb, Empty Tome, Stone Mask

With the fairly clear implication runetracer and fire wand crushes the library, bone is pretty solid, and the bible is... actually kinda' cruddy. Part of its problem with bible was definitely that the water was overriding pretty much its entire function and doing a better job of it, on top of everything else just killing most things before they got close enough to get hit by the books. It'd probably perform better if, uh, literally everything else in my kit hadn't been outperforming it, heh.
