garlic is still garbage. I don't get why anyone thinks its not. kills the bats in forest... and thats about it. far far too weak everywhere else. a slot that could be something else.
bone. tier b. rank 8 b+ with lots of proj, and duration. hits ok damage. but, just not that great. its no magic wand, upgraded. and certainly not boomarang, runetracer, book or santa water.
santa water alot of people here seem to be really sleeping on. its not random. it throws the vials in a 360 arc around you in sequence, with preset distance. so, with enough duration, and +proj, it forms a constant circle of fire water around you. its arguably better then bible.
pigeons. gave them another shot too. yeah weak. they deal more burst dps then water, but instead of the constant aoe, its more targeted. the more constant aoe of water, book, or even axe/scythe is just better. both pigeons combined is decent... but requires 2 weapons upgraded to match the power of 1 book, or 1 water.
I skipped pentagram the first time as well, didnt really consider it a weapon.
pentagram rank 1 tier... b. rank 8 tier A+ probably a surprise to people. the misunderstand it. first of, higher ranks don't destroy items. lower ranks do, thats bad right? well sure. but, how many times have you left exp on the ground, you can't get to? or, how many times have you hit level 99+ and stopped getting weapon upgrades, and just where getting gold/meat? so yes, its underrated.
Evolved whip still take projectile increases from the duplicator ring. I got an evolved whip with three strikes and it was quite good. It also provides a really solid amount of healing, letting you survive even when there are gaps in your ability to keep enemies away.
I just finished my first 30 minute run with evolved knife + garlic in the forest. The garlic is excellent against the bat swarms and, if you get some damage upgrades, the ghost swarms as well. If you get a few aoe upgrades it can also prevent both swarms from shoving more dangerous enemies into your character by killing the bats/ghosts doing the shoving through the tougher enemies. The last thing I noticed was that the hit-stun from the garlic was just long enough to allow me to walk straight through densely packed enemies after the knife cleared a path.
I think the garlic was level 8, with some spinach and candelabra. I also got a laurel with two charges that helped a bit and saints water at a low level. I got the water late and it didn't do that much.
So while the garlic isn't in the league of the higher performing weapons I would definitely not describe it as garbage.
Just did a hyper library run with the skelebro that happened to have both bible and water. End stats (steam didn't want to screenshot it for some reason, though I've got one, and the numbers are probably a little off due to the game's stat rounding giving me less than ideal data, ha) came out to:
King Bible : 7.8k, 12:01, DPS: 10.8
Unholy Vespers: 81.8k, 12:33, DPS: 108
Together: 89.6k, 24:34, DPS: 60.8
Santa Water: 1.1M , 29.38, DPS: 625.1
With the functionality (keeping things away from you in a circle) basically identical, except the water pushed them off to the corners of the map instead of just a little circle around you. Most of the run (especially in the late game, last 5-10 min, where I stopped moving as much) the bible did little to nothing because the water+rest of it was keeping everything outside the range of the vespers, heh. Plus, if I hadn't had the bible I could have picked up... some other evolvable one. Or anything, really.
... for the curious, my other numbers were:
fire wand: 59.5k, 8:15, DPS: 120.1
Hellfire: 2.9M, 17:31, DPS: 2.8k
Together: ~3M, 25:46, DPS: 1.9K
Magic wand: 119.9k, 14:22, DPS: 139.1
Holy Wand: 916.9k, 9:54, DPS: 1.5k
Together: ~1.036M, 24:16, DPS: 641.9
Bone: 1.8M, 30:03, DPS: 997.5
Runetracer: 3.4M, 29:50, DPS: 1.9k
Items: Duplicator, Spinach, Spellbinder, Bracer, Attractorb, Empty Tome, Stone Mask
With the fairly clear implication runetracer and fire wand crushes the library, bone is pretty solid, and the bible is... actually kinda' cruddy. Part of its problem with bible was definitely that the water was overriding pretty much its entire function and doing a better job of it, on top of everything else just killing most things before they got close enough to get hit by the books. It'd probably perform better if, uh, literally everything else in my kit hadn't been outperforming it, heh.
