cant seem to get past the 15 minute mark
no matter how many times i play what combination, on the first map, theres just so many mobs that are too strong. is this a soft cap that requires you to spend gold, or play other maps to unlock better items or something, its quite difficult to really understand whats going wrong.

last run, i played the lightening guy, got that to level 8 and it was doing ALOT of DPs 297 i think had king Bible, that was also level 8 doing alot, level 6 garlic, level 6 laurel and high EXP gain level 5 or something (not tsure, forgive me im new) and was obliterating, but then its just those rats and red bats that tank so much...actually quite frustrating to be honest.

is there a god tier build or is it a case of get gold and unlock passive bonus's?

Be happy its challenging for you now... cause as soon as you start unlocking your upgrades and other characters, your gonna be playing for leader boards rather than just completing a certain stage. Lol

the games end at 30 minutes.
so people compete for things like highest level, most kills, most gold, etc after 30 min with maximum difficulty enabled.

as far as builds a lot comes down to unlocking new equipment items with achievements and getting the gold passives.

theres also a mechanic called evolution where certain item combos cause max level weapons to transform into stronger versions.

like that lightning ring you had. if you grabbed a passive equipment called duplicator in the same run, which adds more shots to all weapons, the next chest you open changes the lightning ring into the thunder loop which literally "makes lightning strike twice"

Keep unlocking achievements and buying powerups like might armor health regen.

Aim for Garlic, Lancet, Laurel, Whip, Pummarola, Hollow Heart, Armor and anything else for an easy build.

Also I beat Inlaid Library before I beat Mad Forest. Taking Mortaccio into Inlaid Library is pretty easy.

Just as i posted this, I decided to change level to the Library and reached the 30 minute mark, had the Evolved King Bible and Hellfire. was quite fun...maybe library is bit easier then the first level. but thanks for the info, appreciated.

Yes, library is the best level to level up and evolve items.:steamhappy:
I also won library first and forest second. 3rd level is just more difficult to win but the game is really satisfying, because you get just better when you spent your gold on permanent upgrades and new characters.

red bats are a hard part even when you have more powerups they can still give you trouble.

what gave me the biggest boost when i started is play with Gennaro. eh has an extra
projectile which makes it all so much easier. then easrn cash till you can affort the the extra projectile powerup.
with this 15-20 minute should be easy and you can go from there
try to unlock Mortaccio and then longers runs will come much easier aswell

also the library i feel is a little bit easier earlier

Skeletons, The Big bats(red bats), Werewolfs. all are hurdles that we can stuggle with when starting out in this game.

What characters do you like to use/who do you have unlocked? That makes kind of a big difference when wanting to recommend a strategy

I was having the same problem when I started, the 15 minute mark is definitely a make or break point for how your build is going. Once you start remembering weapon/accessory combinations though, you'll start breezing through. :)
Dai Mar 21, 2022 @ 5:24pm
Had the same problem when I started and now I usually do 30 minute runs all of the time now. I would try different upgraded weapons that you haven't used before then going from there to decide what works best for you.
Raelic Mar 21, 2022 @ 5:26pm
When you first start you don't have all the achievements to even get the components for evolutions. I'd just go down the achievement list unlocking stuff slowly and getting gold for powerups. Your first evolved item will carry you pretty far and your second will probably start making your runs go to 30 minutes.

30 minutes is just a bonus though. The real bosses on these stages are at 25 minutes.

As a general rule if you are having trouble surviving, prioritize getting at least one good defensive weapon like Garlic, Bible or Song of Mana and then build tall rather than wide. For example you will be able to survive MUCH more powerful waves of enemies with a single level 8 Bible or Song of Mana than you would if you spread those 8 levels worth of upgrades over 4 or 5 different weapons. Your early game goal should be to get a weapon like the ones I mentioned above leveled up enough to just plow straight through low level mobs so you can soak up the exp. Nothing feels better than stepping in front of a huge hoard of bats with garlic or the song and watching them all disintegrate into a pile of gems.

You should similarly limit your early accessory pick ups to truly rare or useful items like the duplicator and empty tome rather than grabbing every shiny thing you come across, at least until you have put together your core build that's needed to survive and grant some breathing room.

When picking up accessories really think about which ones will work with the weapons you have. As a general rule of thumb Empty Tome is the most versatile and powerful accessory in the game and thus should be prioritized most of the time. It also scales non-linearly so unlike your other accessories, you want to max the level on it rapidly.

The Duplicator is a huge game changer early in a run particularly if you are in trouble due to picking up too many weapons right off the bat. If you a load of level one weapons that are firing just a single projectile then picking up this item can double your fire power in an instant.

Consider buying your permanent luck upgrades sooner than later. Floor Chicken is your life blood and upgrading your luck will drastically increase your chances of finding it.

first time on roguelikes? dying is a lesson to learn
my suggestion are simple, whip is good for beginners, dont run, fight, enemies are experience points

You'll find that there are certain passive items that vastly increase your likelihood of succeeding. Increased area, duplicator, and decreased cooldown are three that I generally try to keep an eye out for.

Some items like the Laurel, Armour, or Lancet I will skip over completely (at least for now).

Some combinations of items end up making a run much more challenging than needs be and that can take experimentation. That said, some items are more 'geared towards' open maps like the first level or narrow maps like the library.

I've never looked up guides on how to build a certain way. Learning and becoming familiar with early evolution's, however, will likely improve your experience (unless you're a purist). Early items like the whip can make life easier as you near the 30 minute mark. Later you'll learn how different passives influence active abilities.
