If you want evolved birb, with most characters you can only pick up 3 non-birb weapons, and you *will* get forced to pick from a list of all weapons sometimes, so if you eagerly pick up two other weapons right away because they're good and you want to survive, you're only two forced or impatient weapon picks from being denied ultimate birb.
Filling all six accessory slots also increases the odds that you'll get a forced weapon pick, so if you're hunting for a specific weapon, it helps to resist picking up new accessories as well as new weapons for as long as possible.
There are 16 common unevolved weapons (and 2 rare ones), so to get both birds, it's fairly likely that you'll have to look at about 15 new weapon offerings, and a forced weapon pick is more likely than not to make you take a non-bird.
