How do I play with a friend online?

I dont see any way to invite a friend to play together. 1v1 or 2v2 vs the AI. I can only find the local coop option. Am I missing something?

You know this was the reason I bought this game, to play with a friend. I didnt even check whether it had this feature because you'd expect to be included by default, it's just common sense.
