Game gets stuck at 0% loading when I start it up

Full disclosure, I am playing this on a new gaming laptop, I'm not sure where the problem lies but I don't think it's my specs.

I have had many problems trying to figure out what is wrong with this game. When I first booted the launcher, if I picked full screen it would say "unable to set graphics mode" and close itself immediately.

I stopped trying that altogether and went for borderless windowed, but then it just gave me game audio with a BLACK SCREEN. No visual at all, just nothing.

After that, I started trying to boot it up in regular windowed mode using the steam launch settings. Didn't change anything, so I had to go into the file editor and set the starting cutscene to "false."

Now it just shows me a frozen loading screen that's stuck at 0%. None of the pages I've found online explain how I can fix this or even what the problem is. I know the engine is ancient, but it still works for other people so what exactly is happening for me?

Question: Have you tried using the 4GB Patch? It might help or not. Tbh, I never encountered that problem (I've been playing SCB:CB for some time already) but the 4GB Patch might help.

No I haven't downloaded the patch, I'm not sure where to download it or even what it's meant to resolve.

TL;DR: SCP:CB is a 32 Bit game, and because of that it uses below 4GB of RAM. That patch makes the game capable of using at least 4GB of RAM which is known to at least solve the Memory Access Violation error but it might help with your problem too.

When the launcher comes up, which option for the graphics card do you select?

I just select the default recommended driver, I've tried every option though and nothing changed. I'll try installing the patch, thanks.

Tbh if the patch doesn't work there are just these two things that you can try (if you haven't, but I believe you already have):

- Reinstall the whole game or verify the game files
- Wait a minute or 2 when the game is loading

And there's one thing you can try but I don't know if it actually works: When the launcher pops up uncheck the option "Use Launcher". You can try this, but I think you will have to change the options file to get the launcher back.

I tried all of that except verifying game files but I'm not sure what it would fix considering everything else I've already tried.
