There might be other factors that cause problems, but DirectX likely wouldn't be one of them.
No one made me the "boss" but I'm sick of people attacking others for seemingly arbitrary reasons, a situation I've seen over and over again online. I sometimes miss the early days of the Internet, like when I first got online in 1991, when people are generally more civil towards one another.

You won't know for sure if it resolves it if you don't try it. Backup the version of the file you have an give it a shot. The game's not running so it can't get any worse for this game.
My thought is that you're using a 7 year old Macbook. That old of a Macbook possibly has 14+ year old hardware in it. Are you sure it's specs are good enough?
The system requirement minimums for this game on the store page state that it needs a CPU that runs a minimum of 2.8ghz. The processors I looked up that came in that notebook is less than that.
You're trying to play games on a tiny, old, notebook that wasn't designed to run games.
That's reasonably what the problem is and it's not going to run.
