Why do the faces of the characters look like that?
The drawn art is beautiful but in the game the faces look like puppets. Do they look like that on purpose? Should have made the faces like in the FFVII Remake :happyio:

Faces are fine. The lack of tiddie physics is not.

Get your priorities straight, bro. /sarcasm

I found that the animations for Star Ocean games are relatively behind the times. I don't know the specifics of tri-Ace and how big their dev team is or how much funding they get, but I do feel that it's intentional. As their games have never been cutting-edge as far as I can remember. I think they were going for anime-style appearance, but in this day and age, I don't think this style translates well at this level of 3D graphics. People have been pointing out that the animations and voice acting are rigid. Well, . . . yeah. That's anime, basically. It just doesn't fit the expectation anymore. To your point, even FVII Remake ditched that style and made their own.

Edit: But I do agree that the artwork and concepts are beautiful. They certainly have talent. I just think it's a matter of them fitting into the mold that other games have created.

True and real.

tri-Ace games always had puppet faces on their character models, outside of maybe resonance of fate.

Should have made them look like on the beautiful art. I hate how they look in the game.

The Tales games looks pretty good for anime faces. Or go cel shaded which for some games like Tales of Vesperia and Zelda Wind Waker looks beautiful and still holds up to this day.

I entirely agree. Some games know what kind of style they want and do it well. I thought Tales of Arise was beautifully done as far as the graphics and art was concerned. Cel-shaded graphics I think was a great adaptation for some games as well. For Star Ocean, I just think that they have great concepts but then when it comes to the graphics, it falls into this uncanny realm between anime and 'life-like' graphic style. Not that it's particularly bad, but it definitely warrants the comments some people are saying about 'plastic doll' characters.

If we're talking Anime Faces, I think Code Vein has some of the best, visually. Yeah, you don't always see them talking in animation, but it's good enough to serve the purpose.

Phone game didn't have this issue. It's weird.

They use the face makes to help save on animation budget. It's a cheap trick but it does work.

As for this game, I think a lot of it is the lighting/shadows. SO5 had the same issue. Maybe it's Tri-Ace programmers having bad habits with their engine.

Hard disagree. Final Fantasy has lost their anime inspired aesthetic a long time ago. Star Ocean still has theirs.

Tales of Arise, Code Vein. The faces there look so much better.

it is just the design choice they want for the series. Not everything needs hyper realism, and there is more than one anime style to choose from to emulate. I honestly like this much more than chibi stuff like BD2.

They're so ugly. I hate it. I played the demo, and I enjoy the game play but the characters are much worse if you ask me than the last Star Ocean. It's almost creepy how weird they look. It's my opinion, I know, but it's off put me so much, I don't think I'll be picking this one up.

Impossible this game looks like FF series because Tri Ace have limited budget, bro!
Only FF series have the biggest budget in Square Enix.
