Get your priorities straight, bro. /sarcasm
Edit: But I do agree that the artwork and concepts are beautiful. They certainly have talent. I just think it's a matter of them fitting into the mold that other games have created.
The Tales games looks pretty good for anime faces. Or go cel shaded which for some games like Tales of Vesperia and Zelda Wind Waker looks beautiful and still holds up to this day.
I entirely agree. Some games know what kind of style they want and do it well. I thought Tales of Arise was beautifully done as far as the graphics and art was concerned. Cel-shaded graphics I think was a great adaptation for some games as well. For Star Ocean, I just think that they have great concepts but then when it comes to the graphics, it falls into this uncanny realm between anime and 'life-like' graphic style. Not that it's particularly bad, but it definitely warrants the comments some people are saying about 'plastic doll' characters.
They use the face makes to help save on animation budget. It's a cheap trick but it does work.
As for this game, I think a lot of it is the lighting/shadows. SO5 had the same issue. Maybe it's Tri-Ace programmers having bad habits with their engine.
Hard disagree. Final Fantasy has lost their anime inspired aesthetic a long time ago. Star Ocean still has theirs.
Only FF series have the biggest budget in Square Enix.
