Whoah, yeah thanks for that comparison. Thats a solid comparison.
It isn't the best of ports, a patch is in the works, might be safer to wait for the patch ?
As for the quality of the game itself, it's fairly solid yeah, nothing exceptional, but a very fun romp that makes sense all the way through. Recommend playing Laeticia first, and if you're comfortable with JRPG's and SO games, jump straight in at universe difficulty. :)
Tales Of Arise is way too linear, enemies are hp Sponges and mechanics are waaaaay to simple compared with other games in the series. Story alone, Tales Of Aries is far superior from SO6. Also the game is better optimized for PC.
SO6 have a weak story yet not that bad. Have good gameplay mechanic, is more hard, battles are easy and not that heavy (just the FKING bird) have more post game content and is more open. The game have it's heavy grind game later on. Good thing is with a few tricks leveling up is not that bad and you can get to lvl 255 which is the max lvl cap in less than 5 hours.
Tales Of Arise have some kind of tournament while in this Star Ocean we don't or at least I don't know if it exists.
Star Ocean 6 gives you the enough reasons to start a second playthrough, Tales Of Arise just don't.
Tales Of Arise can run on super potatoes PC with second or third gen Intel CPU (I played on PS5) but i know this because a friend. Yet Star Ocean 6 can't run on second or 3rd gen Intel CPU or AMD equivalent (cause still unknown). Yet if you have a pc with those specs you can play so6 on GeForce Now.
Story wise Im not 100% done with Star Ocean, so I dont wanna jump in on that yet. Arise writing was pretty good, the ending was rushed though sadly and did huge leaps for the last few hours.
Honestly, with the bad PC performance, I would Get Arise
Looks visually better
Plays smoother
Better voice acting
Worse object pop in
Tales of Arise is the better pick of the two. However why not get both if you can. Both are fun. With Star Ocean having technical issues but otherwise fun.
Bad pc performance is not a blanket thing, it seems to affect some people really hard, but it's a minority. It's why I mentioned to check for that in my own comment earlier.
Really tired of people blanketing their own issues like it's everyone's. :P
Performs perfectly fine on my own computer and two friendos' with different hardware than mine.
I am trying the demo On a Series S and performance is um Well it reaches 60 then after getting the Duma getting down to your pod the Frame Rate hovers from 60 towards 40 what the hell. Also the wash out effect I can remove this on PC Right? Cause it be the first thing I'd do.
By wash out you mean the blurriness from DOF during cutscenes ? By default, you can't, no.
Kaldaien has developed a wonderful tool to remove that and fix some issues with the port however, fixing that is one of the things it can do. Like I mentioned earlier, they are also working on a patch which might include fixes like that.
The tool I mentioned from Kaldaien is Special K, there is instructions specific to SO6 on the discord, I run this with reshade with a raytracing filter, a sharpening filter, fake HDR and some color vibrance added. This is what game looks like for me: https://puu.sh/Jqcgj/227a7b23f6.jpg
Bonus for getting that on pc: You can really tinker with the experience, even if the game is limited in ways to do so :P
Hiccups you can expect with port:
-Difficulty alt-tabbing in borderless mode (solved by special K)
-DOF blurriness (solved by special K)
-Frame rate drops (solved for ~most~ people by recompiling shaders, Special K further addresses this - Limit special K FPS to 59.99 and turn on triple buffering)
-Game isn't properly detected by discord and other software (solved with special K)
-Game is a little drab in colors (solved with reshade)
It's by no means perfect on a technical level, but it's perfectly manageable, with these two tools I have stable 60 fps performance and very decent graphics on a 2060 and a 5600x. It's up to you if you're willing to tolerate the technical failures of the port and put in some effort to make it run smoothly, it is however very playable for most straight out of the box.
Hope this helps. :]
