I've run into a HUGE issue... Controller support.
This game is quite literally built around the use of a controller, it even brings up a prompt that to have the best and most enjoyable play-through, you should use a controller.

Previously, I used my Xbox Series controller with absolutely ZERO issue, but after picking the game back up, it straight just doesn't work anymore. Pressing the left thumb-stick brings up a giant on-screen keyboard and I cant even pause the game without hitting ESC on my keyboard. None of the other buttons work at all and it seems the camera is stuck in "fastas♥♥♥♥boi" mode. It's only "playable" with MaKB and I really don't want to play the game like that, because, at time of posting, I JUST beat, at a nearly 100%, Fallen Order, using the same exact controller.

I've noticed this is a somewhat common issue on reddit, but all the fixes posted there did not work for me

I found a solution to this problem, if you're launching through steam, you can open big picture mode and fix it from there. read this article to figure it out:

Switch to desktop mode.
Connect your Xbox Controller to the Steam Deck.
Open Steam
Switch to Big Picture Mode by going to View > Big Picture Mode.
Click the gear icon in the top right corner next to the power symbol.
Open Controller section > Xbox One Controller.
Click “Edit” for the Desktop Layout
You will find that your Xbox controller is using the template “Keyboard (WASD) and Mouse. Click that.
Go to the “Templates” tab.

it was all working for me after I played it as a non steam game and then it stopped working. May just repurchase this game through EA or EG.

try doing what the pinned comment suggested, set the EA app as a non-steam game and lauch the game via that method

set the EA app as a NSG
launch the EA app via steam
launch the game via the EA app that was launched via steam

that worked perfectly for me

It was working great for me.. but today Steam Updated and removed the EADesktop.exe. I tried re-adding it as a Non-Steam Game (again) but it doesn't show up.. sigh.

That was the only way I was able to play with my XB1 controller.. which is wired via USB.

On mine, when I added it to NSG, it read as "App Recovery" even though the path was clearly for the launcher .exe file. Try again and look at the file paths.

I had all sort of wierdness trying to use an Xbox controller: dash mapped to the wrong button, select not working, a keyboard appearing at random times. Found these instructions on Reddit, and everything is working fine now:

Steam>Settings>Controller>Non-game controller layouts>Desktop layout>edit. Then disable steam input.

This worked perfectly for me, also using a PS4 controller, with no dog water 3rd party garbage. I was ripping my hair out trying to get a variety of fixes to work, and this one finally did. Slim0485 you little rippah!!

so, the top response details that I have to add the EA app as a non-steam game, which I've done, and I open it, and it SCREAMS at me that "Jedi Survivor is managed through steam" and "To manage it here, download it on steam"

... crazy that I already have the game downloaded, and it boots, it just isn't playable with a controller, because EA's CEO did a LOT of "White Girl Interrupted" and thought to himself, "how can we ♥♥♥♥ up our projects even mor- MAKE CONTROLLER PREFERRED GAMES JUST ♥♥♥♥♥♥' NOT WORK! PERFECT IDEA ME!"

I hate EA, and you should too, because they're a scummy piece of ♥♥♥♥ company who doesn't make games for fun, they make them for profit, which is pathetic and a little sad.

Holy sh!t... You're my savior. It's been 40 minutes man.
This exact step has finally helped me, another thing that I did was enabling steam input for the ea app.

It's related to the issue of the broken Steam HUD due to the recent EA update. The fix is adding the EA Launcher as a non-steam game, and using its Steam shortcut to launch the game within the EA Launcher.

Make sure that the EA Launcher is not running in the background while trying to start, otherwise it's very likely that it won't work. When successful, you should be able to see the Steam HUD ingame after pressing Shift + Tab.

On my razer v3 wolverine disabling steam input allows me to play without the keyboard popping up but it wouldn't allow me on the razer v2 or the thrustmaster. It's controller dependent for those struggling with that issue.

It should work, if the process is entirely killed in the Task-Manager, before you start it as a Non-Steam-Application. If that won't work, check that the EA-App is not set on autostart, and reboot. Then, launch via Non-Steam-App.

I also had the same issue with the Steam Controller, running the game normally, the controller stays in Desktop mode and never switch the the game's layout (although it succeeded to do it once when starting the game like 50 times...?!?).
Using the non-steam game shortcut as described is working well for me, seems to be always working. Thanks a lot!

In addition, to be able to find the community controller layout for that game, you can also change the name of the shortcut to match the steam id of the game, 1774580 for Jedi Survivor (see https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/sxfets/psa_steam_input_bindings_can_be_added_on_nonsteam/).

I basically tried what was suggested in the pinned comment and the ea app says an error occured while launching the game :D Any ideas?
