This game has completely broke my pc
so I died and in the death screen, but I am unable to respawn... I waited for about 30 minutes and still not responding, so I decided to close out the game by pressing alt+f4, still nothing.

I even completely turned my pc on and off... AND ITS STILL RUNNING.

I can't even access my steam app at all without it switching me right back to the death screen, only way I was able to bypass it was by opening another window and using my browser.

any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hold the power putton for about 10 sec, your PC should turn off. When you get back into windows, google "disable fast start" and you should not have this problem again.

The issue is with Windows Fast Start enabled when you reboot, it just hibernates and comes back from that vs. actually restarting all your apps, programs, and system processes.

Thanks

One other trick I found on Win 11, is you can make the task manger (ctr+alt+del) always be on top. This lets you close a full screen apps without having to reboot.

Just curious what are your specs?

Good lord. You didn't turn off your computer. You just put it to sleep or hibernate mode. If you rebooted the machine, it would have gone to POST from BIOS, attempted to reload WIndows, and then dumped you at the WIndows logon screen if it was successful. The game would not survive that process unless it was told to start upon login which you would have noticed because that would need to be done on purpose.

FYI - fast boot makes reboot do this, and was on by default in Win 10. As in on start of reboot it would create a hibernate image, power cycle the PC, and the load the hibernate state from the hard drive. It caused so many issues exactly like the OP experienced, every domain a touch disables it by default.

P.S. fast boot is fun with Autodesk products, and others that also black screen and then the user has no idea why their computer boots right back to that black screen.

Press ctrl shift esc at the same time (opens task manager), right click the game and choose 'end task', forces the game to close. The game has frozen for me a few times, that always works.

I have had that not work if I am running exclusive full screen. The task manger set to always on top was a great work around, because the darn crashed exclusive full screen game keep getting on top of task manger or any other window when Alt+F4 and others were not working. Heck half the time there is a Unlreal crash or other back there I can't click.

the issue was only resolved for me when I disabled windows fast start, then restarted my pc. even task manager was refusing to close out the game, kinda scary if you don't know what you are doing on pc.

its one of the reasons fast start is soooo bad. It makes a reboot work counter intuitively. As in reboot does nothing to fix the program hanging, only turning the PC off and on fixes it with fast boot enabled. Also MS rolled out this feature to help HD boot as fast as SSD....and then we got NVME drives and there was no need for it at all.

Also this is how you set the task manger to always be on top:
