Left handed keyboard and mouse user
I am at the point of giving up on this game. I saw the suggestion that keyboard and mouse are very much recommended but I have seen that in other games and I was able to get by. I am playing on padawan difficulty and it is still impossible to get by with keyboard and mouse.

I do not remember the original game being this problematic.

I do not know if difficulty level affect exploration but adding combat damage to impossible exploration can make some levels so hard to be either enjoyment braking or impossible.

I have remapped keys to avoid having to remove hand from mouse or my movement keys from right side number pad. The problem is the dash feature which you don't get until mid game and does not immediately show the problem. The problem being the dash seems to require cardinal directionality (front, back, left, right) in some cases. It either won't work or works inconsistently. Attempt to dash and you may dash forward or some direction off forward. I am on second mission on shattered moon. I keep dashing to my death. A game can be hard and fun. This is not fun.

I think I will hold on to the game. I think the story is great but the story is ruined because of problems. I can hope they balance game better for keyboard and mouse users.

I would just recommend refunding and repurchasing it later on when its not a unoptimized mess that costs 70 dollars
I'm left handed and mouse with my right. It's not worth doing it left handed. Hasn't been since half-life ONE, the hardware and software of PC games do not optimize for it. They don't make good left hand mice compared to the high quality right handed ones, and if you go all in to buying the perfect hardware, it's not a problem because macros and 3rd party rebind tools exist. There's also weird devices like trackballs, vertical mice, and split ergonomic keyboards.

This is further a bad argument on a 3rd person console port optimized for controllers. It makes sense for counter strike or doom eternal, not this game. Controller optimized games play so much better on a controller it's ridiculous. Why hunch over getting carpal tunnel when you can lean back, relax, and use a controller?

Also, complaining about the dash seems like a Quantum TV Elden Ring hot take, or Dean Takahashi playing Cuphead. I'd recommend sticking to a controller and playing the game on the easiest difficulty mode. If that's not easy enough, well the Doom Eternal and Dark Souls community has some "helpful" opinions on that.

There's plenty of great ambidextrous mice to choose from. Using a relaxed, fingers extended palm style of mouse and keyboarding I find i can game longer before pain sets in on a mouse and keyboard than I can on a controller.

Problem with those is Apple one button mouse syndrome. You get a basic mouse with a scroll wheel, while hand specific mice have side buttons, and those side buttons are really useful in games that have excessive controls, or for using macros. EG: F.E.A.R. or Doom Eternal. If you have pain, it's probably better to get one of those vertical mice. I have seen swappable side button mice, but IDK about durability or if they're still sold. The one feature I will not give up is the logitech infinite scroll wheel, as it is a complete game changer for PC use. I will not use any mouse that doesn't have it. You don't use it for gaming, there's a toggle for gaming mode, it's software use where you notice the benefit.

I kinda agree with the controller thing, as I think ergonomics peaked with the 360 controller, and went worse ergonomics with gimmicks afterwards. We really need a controller like a dedicated steamdeck controller, eg without the console. I want the same 1:1 functionality with hall effect joysticks. Wouldn't need anything else past that, the deck has a near perfect featureset, especially with the custom configuration. I made a profile for Unreal Gold on my deck that retains full 1:1 PC compatibility. It's not even running in controller mode. The joystick is set to wasd with outer edge using shift to run, I have touchpad as a wheel for weapon switching, even supports quicksave, and there's a shift mode to navigate the menu. It literally feels like native controller support, but it's actually custom mapping PC controls to controller. Steam Input is a bigger game changer than a video card upgrade. It might be able to play competitive FPS using custom flickstick / gyro modes vs mouse users. This stuff is really equalizing the control playing field, and it works for desktop users too.

The game is designed with controller in mind and that's how the developers recommend you play it. If you have a controller chances are you're going to have a far better experience

The ambidextrous mouse I use is the Logitech G903. It's an 11 button mouse. I'm righty and the only reason I use ambidextrous mouse is to get side buttons on both sides. I squeeze the mouse with my ring finger to use the right side button for sprinting or interaction. It's got a switch to toggle between regular scroll and infinite scroll. I usually just use the m/kb for multiplayer.

Haven't tried the Steamdeck. My controller is the Scuf with 4 paddles. Underneath paddles are great for games like Survivor for dodging and jumping. I use the other two paddles for attack. At least in Fallen Order. I assume the controls are the same in Survivor.
