Soft locked at Jedha due to crashing, any way to progress without touching the sand?

Is there a way of getting past the first part of Jedha with the monsters in the sand without touching the sand at all? Anytime i touch the sand even a little my game hard crashes to desktop. I've submitted the crash reports but im trying to see if there is some obvious path i'm missing where I don't need to touch the sand.

The path I took through in the start of that planet let me get to the part you use force to open gate without touching the sand, but you have to take a few quick steps in the sand before entering the story progression path. A side area can be accessed on the left without touching. I couldn't find another path at that time.

Well here we are a week later. I finally got a day off work and decided to give this game another try, but the second I touch the sand no matter how minute, I crash. Like even if I just barely brush the sand, insta ctd bugsplat.
