How to escape enemy grapples/holds

Hi all-

So there is one enemy I just encountered and their opening move is to use their axe-blade thing to grapple/hold you.

Once held, you have to hit a key to get out of it. I believe it's the focus key but it might be dodge. At any right, I've tried doing this....tapping it, holding it, repeatedly tapping it...not able to escape.

So I'm watching my health go down and I'm given ample time to escape but no key indicated seems to do it.

I'm on PC, using mouse and keyboard. I have bound dodge to "control" and focus to "tab", and then went back to default layout just to see if that was the issue.

Really sucks because a.) I am loving this game, but b.) it stops me from continuing.

Mash the dodge key.. tap it repeatedly quickly, but you can turn those to auto-win in the options. I can win those but they tire my finger out, I am disabled so auto-win for me. You can beat them to the punch by cheesing them. If you know where they are, just force push them. If I can guess where you are, automated forge, you can force push them through the wall.

They will keep doing that move but if you have the force dodge ability. You can dodge it on the regular basis if you are good.

You can unlock a force move, its listed as a Melee dodge, think the move that the inquisitor sister does when facing them. Where they auto dodge.

Anyway unlock that and anytime you are in combat with an enemy and they glow red with a melee attack, hold down your dodge button and then punish the fool that dared think they could land a blow on you.
