Computer turning off as game progresses
It ran fine in the tutorial area, then as I got to more and more of the open-world my computer began to shut off. I think it's an overheating thing? The increments got shorter until now I can't run it for 5 minutes without my PC shutting off. Any recommendations? Or should I just wait for patches?

A computer just shutting off in the middle of a game usually indicates either a Heat issue or a possible power supply issue.

It doesn't overheat when I play anything else, so is this a result of the games optimization or should I look at investing in better fans or something.

The easiest and cheapest things to do. Make sure the vents on the powesupply is clean. Make sure all vents are clear and not blocked. If everything is clear, try taking the side off the computer , put a box fan on high beside of it blowing in and see if it still shuts down.

A game being poorly optimized can cause all kinds of issues but shutting the machine down is very rare. The fact it only shuts down in this game still likely points to heat or power supply because it is a pretty taxing game.

To check power supply issues, download the utilities for your motherboard and have them running and constantly alt tab between it and the game and see if your getting a voltage drop. It taking several minutes to shut your machine down, if its a power supply issue, you would have plenty of time to see the voltage dropping.

Just some suggestions you can try...

Try this, not sure if it will help but it helped me:

This fix, will for sure reduce the stuttering in 90% and make the game playable.

1 First of all, go to your screen settings and set your monitor to 50hz or below (50 should be good)

2 Make sure you download the version 2.2.3 of this mod, this one is pretty easy to install.
This is the MOD: https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsjedisurvivor/mods/7?tab=files

3 Don't run the game as admin.

4 Now you can choose literally any type of settings on the game, just make sure your machine will support it!

5 This is so far the best and only way to make the game playable until we wait for a better update on the game! This stop the crashing on my save data, on the second planet, stop in 90% the stuttering.

6 also recomend to turn off the RTX, at least on my side because the game still need fixes for the RTX. I have the RTX 3070TI and I noticed it will a little low FPS on some parts of the game.

This will fix your game i'm 100% sure. At least it's going to be a lot better than before, give it a try! And if it works, please comment!

Remeber to find the 2.2.3 version
If you have any question or want to add anything, let me know!

The game can now open, now i can load my save file and it won't crash again.
Yo_Soy_Wolfhug May 4, 2023 @ 9:41pm
And of course reduces in 90% the stuttering

A badly optimized game can cause a shut down. It’s not entirely rare. It happened to me when playing Friday The 13th when it was first released. No other game had the issue. Most of the time a random shut down is usually caused by a PSU or an overheating issue. However, a badly coded/optimized game can do the same.

Check your temps with MSI Afterburner and see if there is an overheating issue. Also check Windows Event Viewer for the exact error of the shut down.

You can also run some stress test software to check your PSU, RAM, etc. Such as:

OCCT
Prime95
Memtest86
AIDA64

The box fan trick worked pretty well, temps would shoot up when I entered a new area so I would pause for a second. Maybe some of the other tips or a patch would offer a more permanent solution but thanks for the advice.

If putting a box fan on your PC worked well and fixed it. Then that means you have an overheating issue. You should re-apply thermal paste to the CPU. As well as get more airflow and fans. If your PC is dusty use a can of compressed air when the PC is turned off. Depending on your cooling, I’d go for a 240 AIO on the top. 3 fans in the front, 1 in the back.

I guess I do but I'm only getting heating issues with this game. Also my case only has two fans, one in front and one in back. Appreciate the advice though.

Well you could potentially get more fans. Doesn’t hurt. But yeah, some games that are badly coded and not utilizing hardware properly could potentially spike up temps I guess.

Awesome, looks like it is a heat issue then. What temps was you seeing rise when entering a new area? Was it gpu or cpu temps that were rising?

Probably GPU, check out my GPU junction temperatures:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrGMdWP-mGs

This GPU will shut off around 116C Junction temp, but Nvidia ones will do it much sooner. Some at only 90C. Keep it cool.

My temps have since been stabilized and closer to 80-90C after I fixed the 3dcopy issue.

My GPU felt really hot, Afterburner was showing temps rise to about 85 before I stopped playing. I feel like my setup is too compact to get good temps but I'm not sure what I can do about it besides spending a bunch of money.

It won’t be that much money. You can get a new case for like 120-150$ and some fans. You could also look up a tutorial on how to remove the backplate for your GPU and re apply thermal paste and or thermal pads.
