They are known for that type of stuff, releasing half baked games to fix them down the line.
With just a bit more time the devs could have fixed a lot of problems.
Eh, no matter the situation, it is less then ideal for everyone involved.
The publisher, the dev teams and the consumer.
Are there any sources that support this claim or is it just a speculation?
As far as I'm concerned, the game itself is amazing. But PC Ports are last up when it comes to dev time and EA is to blame for them not getting the time. I can't imagine any developer wanting to put out a product that gets so much negative attention and potentially ruins their name and franchise. But a Publisher like EA owns so many development teams and are just looking at their quarterly reports and bank statements. The dev team now has to work way past the established dev time, potentially try to rehire people who may have moved on to other projects, just to fix something they likely begged EA for more time to finish.
Things like bugs and optimization issues generally are caused on the developer side of things but that’s why they need TIME to iron them out and finalize it. EA does NOT want to provide more time than what they originally set 4+ years ago for the developer and so the developer must make due with the time they have.
I have no doubt this game will run smoothly with a few more patches. It’s just a shame a company like EA can’t offer them an extra 3-6 months development time to work out the technical difficulties.
TLDR: while Respawn isn’t innocent here and they def need to ensure the quality of the game. EA is the main driver and reason behind games being pushed out in unfinished states. There are many developers that ask for additional time and it’s their parent company / publisher that says no since the publisher has all their money sunk into the project and they want a return.
EA decides the release dates also probably decides on the budget for the dev team that handles optimization as well as the QA team.
