Why make this Souls-like? Doesn't fit.
I hate that this game has the Souls-like mechanic of having to respawn and reclaim your XP by killing whatever killed you. I also hate that "resting" at meditation points respawns enemies. Takes me totally out of the story every time. Makes more sense for something abstract like Dark Souls games, but not for a straightforward story.

i love it cause it has souls-like mechanics

It adds a lot of unimmersive mechanics in a game with a carefully crafted immersive narrative. Souls-like holds the game back on several of fronts, but it's pretty much here to stay now that we're two games in. The devs or publisher were probably just chasing trends in gaming to get us here.

Pretty much...would love a modern day Jedi Knight game tbh

It's not that different from Jedi Knight. In Jedi Knight you had to find health turrets or packs. Here you have to find meditation points when your stims run out. I'm actually not sure why people are calling this a souls like ... what does that even mean? That you have to fight bosses 10 times over and over again until you memorize the pattern? Because the other mechanics are pretty standard action game fare.

Because the combat. Its Sekiro with leveling.

Sorry but to call this souls like simply because of respawning enemies and reclaiming xp is really thin and not at all close to Sekiro or Dark Souls and the purpose those mechanics serve in it. Honestly, reclaiming the xp is moot since with a tiny bit of grinding you can max out everything in a few hours. I did so in Fort Kahlin fighting the two Raider Elites, which nets you half a level each time you beat them, and the meditation point is right there. All skill trees maxed in no time. Sp xp isn't that big a deal in the game to begin with. As for respawning enemies, it sure would be boring AF if you had to run around Koboh with everything dead, or trek back through levels with no enemies, that would be super lame.

1. Dark souls didn't invent that mechanic, it just made it more popular.
2. Don't play the game if you don't enjoy it simple as that

Ya, I don't mind the mob respawns. It helps in learning the mechanics quicker when you have to keep at it until you get it right.

the only way i would consider a game souls-like is if i have to level at a save and if i die before i get there i lose all exp points. idk what op is talking about

This has to be the dumbest comment ever. The Jedi Knight Outcast/Academy was way different in almost everything. The new Jedi series is soul-combat with tomb raider exploration. The combat system and constant climbing on walls really does take away(is distracting) from the main story.

This game has 2 things hidden beneath elevator platforms. Totally makes it souls like.

Or they could just design a game where you're not constantly retracing your steps.

It is absolutely too souls like because common enemies can easily kill you...whereas in Jedi Knight common enemies only existed to further your power trip and the dark jedi/bosses were the real threat.
Dessolos May 4, 2023 @ 4:02pm
I barley consider this a souls like but it's one of the mechanics i welcome since gives you freedom to farm xp.

What a stupid response. I think the overall game is great. The respawning enemies is the one aspect I don’t enjoy. It takes me right out of the story, especially when boxes you’ve opened or shortcuts you’ve unlocked remain. I personally enjoy wiping out enemies in a game and then being able to go back and mock their corpses still on the battlefield. Not seeing them back again as if I’d never been there before. It’s why I don’t enjoy the Souls games. Not the difficulty, but the endless life wasting respawns and backtracking. This game doesn’t need that mechanic. Just finished RE4, which was fantastic. Did a lot of backtracking there too, but once you killed something it was dead for good. Was satisfying and served the story in that regard. Again, I enjoy these games a ton. This is just the one thing I wish was different. Your pepper analogy is moronic in this case. Haven’t you ever eaten something and said “This is good, but it would be perfect with a little extra …. ‘. That’s all my comment equates to. And yeah, it is simple.
