This game might have the worst combat I have ever seen.
The unblockable attack coupled with having 4 enemies all spam at you at once is just tedious.

Agreed, combat feels like an attempt to copy sekiro/dark souls esque combat but without the polish the movement the timing the animations all just feel off. Ive beat sekiro and most souls games difficulty isnt the problem it just feels bad and unfun, its sort of challenging just not in a good way.

Yea the combat is pretty ♥♥♥♥. I played the first game on JM and GM multiple times. That game has combat issues as well but this one is terrible.
Pocket Dog Jun 28, 2023 @ 4:02pm
Yeah, the combat is this game is incredibly sloppy and often feels cheap. It has similar problems to God of War: Ragnarok, which had some lousy combat. The below thread goes through many of the issues.

No. It is literally spamming. Having the same X amount enemies spamming the same attacks at the same time at you meaning you just have to keep backing away. or using a force pull to get one attack on one of them until you next get a chance is tedious. Also why do they have these unblockable attacks but I dont? It the same issue with all bad combat systems. One sets of rules for you then a totally different set for the AI. Its not hard. Its just really dull.
I haven't run into any spamming issues except for the frog on grand master, you just need to respond appropriately and "backing away" is only SOMETIMES the solution.

Usually you can take a much more offensive and aggressive approach.

Everything you are saying only confirms that this falls squarely in a skill issue space.

You sound like you didn't actually play the game but watched a streamer play it.

Sounds like a user-skill issue to me.

People screaming "skill issues lol" are idiots and have obviously never played an actual well design combat system such as Sekiro. The attacks in Jedi Survivor are poorly telegraphed, which they fixed by allowing you to spam the block button and it just works, and handling multiple enemies at one is a mess. Also, not being able to cancel attacks properly is a major issue. Stupid finish moves achieve to transform it into a both boring and frustrating experience. The last quarter of the game was a royal pain in the ass and i couldn't wait for it to end.

Well stated, the combat feels "off", and the check-list nonsense further highlights the game's flaws. Btw., this is coming from something who's done Doom Eternal + DLCs at Nightmare difficulty. I don't mind a worthwhile challenge, but this is not it.

The first JS map was so good in terms of design, it reminded me of Dark Forces and Jedi Knight 1. Then the generic writing became more obvious, then finally the frequent bugs combined with cumbersome parkour took away the fun factor for me. The quirky alien characters are very good though IMO, some classic LucasArts vibes there.

Can't wait to play Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws....not. What's going on with entertainment and AAA games these days? It's getting worse and worse.

Red attack spam ruin the game, especially all the different grabs, and insta kill attacks on some enemies.
It goes from working in one moment to mindless spamming of heal in another while you have some dumb robot start red attack foot slam spam. Or 2 flamethrowers who you want to target but cant since they are one behind another, or 2 big enemies clipping through each other with big attacks. The 2 Rancor fight is laughable, with enemies casually clipping into each other and reaching through each other to insta kill you in 1 attack, its insane and studpi, you can even see what kills you half the time, and the buggy hitboxes often lead to you dying from noting while you get stuck on invisible walls.
Dosnt help game does nothing to teach you perfect evade .... and even then ... enemies spam weird AOE attacks.

Oh and lets not forget boss fights with multiple cinematics in them to break up your pacing.

The game just dosnt want you to have fun, its fighting with itself since it thinks it should be some Souls game wanna be, yet gives you enough heals to cheese the game and just face tank most fights.

No. You can say that all you want but spamming attacks that cant be blocked is just dull. Why have a parry system?
There's this thing called dodging.

Gotta learn, my friend. That's the point of it, to learn to not get hit by it and to figure out your strategy on avoiding the chain attack. Maybe it's dodging or using Force powers or jumping or attacking into it; it varies from enemy to enemy. Game's gonna pull some BS on you, yeah, but nothing you cannot respond to in kind. Die and learn and die and learn. That's how one gets good, or in my case, passable enough to get past it.
The game is literally a game of "Sit and block because the boss has hyper armor and will just attack you as soon as you attack- if you try to double evade their attack strings gain increased range so they can reach you- you literally stand still after double evading so it gives you no reason to ever use it while fighting" The combat is insanely boring and has no flow or fluidity to it. the animations are too slow to at least just attack and block accurately while fighting the boss, if you try to heal you cant dodge or block or it will cancel the heal, parrying a boss means nothing because you have to get their defense meter down. so then it just goes right back to a game of "Sit still and block and dodge when you see red" God of wars combat is 10x better and this game is newer than their first re-installment of the GOW series lmao. EA made this game so its no wonder the combat has 0 depth to it. It's like they tried to copy elden ring and add their own spin to the bland combat. and I enjoy elden ring even more than this game

God of war rag at least allows you to animation cancel. you can MAKE the combat be good by learning how to cancel animations and it makes the game feel 10x better. this game there's none of that. most devs do not know how to make an RPG game with fluid combat and combo's its always just "spam 1 button and use another to block" the best combat from RPG games come from when players find out a way to make it better. devs need to do better

Well, at the risk of getting a "pompous" reply, I can see you have not even experimented much with stances, let alone Force Powers.

For enemies that have fast unblockable attacks, like the frogs, I use Blaster Stance. Why, because a charged blaster shot will instantly stop it's unblockable attacks, and it also stuns it long enough to get in saber strikes to resupply your blaster ammo.

A single Rancor can be defeated with Dual Wield Stance though. Maybe put on your thinking cap and try things you haven't instead of misjudging the game.

These are all on Jedi Knight, and I'm no expert at these types of games and at 66, hardly have what you'd call elite reflexes or dexterity.

You can also explore a ton and pick up Force Essences and Stims to build up your Force capacity, max health, and health recovery, as well as perk slots and perks. There are also perks that make the blaster do more damage and the saber do more damage after blaster shots. Then there's Slow, which can be a devastating finisher.
