Can't mind trick sometimes

I've noticed that sometimes I can't use jedi mind trick on enemies, and sometimes I can. Hoping someone can tell me why that is.

For example, trying to mind trick a basic droid here, but it's putting this red symbol over their head: https://i.ibb.co/R6kPXsB/image.png

Droids are droids. They need to be hacked and confusion works only on humans or beasts. But you also need to upgrade confusion if you want to mind trick a more resistant enemy.

i tested your theory but that doesn't look to be fully correct. here's the same thing happening to a Storm Trooper. there's something else we're missing:

This isn't an ordinary stormtrooper. This is a jetpack trooper. To confuse him you have to upgrade confusion skill tree.

Half the organic enemies are "resistant" to mind trick, and even if you trick them it does not last very long. You need to get the top most ability to mind trick all organic enemies. Also one of the collectibles is the ability to hack different robotic enemies when their health gets low.
