The save feature is designed for the console, it has huge issues on PC. Many people have the above issue.
And then, every so often, I turn on Cloud saves to back everything up to the cloud, re-syncing what is needed, then turn it off again. I never use cloud saves due to risk of corruption etc.
Once you start to give a ♥♥♥♥ enough, and lose enough, you'll figure out a system, or not.
Always know where your game save folder is and backup locally regularly. Once you create the habit it's so simple to maintain.
