The first game was solid, just don't expect force unleashed level force powers. You basically play a jedi padawan who is just starting to get used to his powers, so you never really seem insanely strong in the first game.
With that being said, the game does take place between Episode 3 (of the prequel trilogy) and Episode 4 (A New Hope which was the very first SW movie). It's an interesting timeline that isn't really explored in any of the movies where the Empire is hunting and purging the Jedi using turned Jedi/dark force users that are called Inquisitors.
If you aren't interested in watching the movies, reading a high level overview of the prequels (Phantom Menace, Clone Wars, Reveneg of the Sith) would give some insight into what's going on and why so you're a little up to speed when you jump into Cal's shoes :)
Unless you have a real hankering for some souls-like game, I'd give it a pass. By far the best thing about it - the thing which might even make me want to replay it - is the story ending, which wont have nearly the same impact on you if you havent watched the movie.
Otherwise it's a decent game that can give you a bit of fun, but it can also kill it with all the backtracking it has.
Jedi Fallen Orden, I recommend it, it's a good fun game!
Y'all have fun :)
