I'm not one to assert either way on that part. Eg it could be that more feel "safe coming out" or it could also be that individuals who would otherwise have been straight see the LGBT individuals being celebrated and want to be celebrated themselves - hell it is probably a bit of both

Its not a fad.. Or a choice/decision to be so. Did you choice to be straight? I didn't. It just is.. You make it sound like people can be influenced on what their favorite flavor of ice cream is, because other people were seen eating that particular flavor.

They usually make it pretty clear that the villain is a psychopath.
That’s different than having main character with a clear different sexual orientation and so on and so forth. Making it in your face and hinting that it’s the norm.

That said I will say I have no problem with a gay side character, just not the main character French kissing his boyfriend or something lol,
