Enemies sliding across the screen to hit me
So something I've noticed and it probably has to do with the lock on system and what not but lord have mercy its both funny and frustrating.

So I'll start this by saying I way prefer the fighting system here to the first game, much simpler and less janky imo, however theres one element that is still a bit of a quirk, the way enemies will literally slide across the field so they can "hit" you.

You'll see it more if you fight from horseback which is janky as hell, enemies will literally surf 20ft to hit the back of your horse, it happens in melee too.

I've found when fighting multiple enemies it'll try to give you a shield when one on your flank tries to attack you, that's your window to dodge or perfect block, however if you dodge even if out of turn you'll move back but you'll see these guys slide across the screen to hit you, pretty funny but also a bit annoying, the game basically says they must hit you because you missed the timing which is silly. Also sometimes I find henry will dash back an insane distance if you dodge backwards. They'll also finish their combo on you even if you dash back and you'll see them swing at the air in front of them and henry will react as if he's hit lol.

Wondering what others experience is with this in combat and what the overall feel about it is.

The fight engine clearly allows enemy to lunge forward to hit you. By this I mean NPCs even with one handed weapons can lurch forward a horse length to attack in a way you never would be able to. You can see this happen the most if you are running away and stop to meet a charge, or if you're holding your ground with a ranged weapon and some melee dude will lunge in.

Weapon reach is pretty much useless because they programmed the AI to be able to do this, while if you try it, you will impotently swing and hit the air.

Also I remember a guard sliding up the hill in the first town and laughing my head off. One year of bug fixing my arse.

Yeah its pretty goofy ngl, I dunno if this is for balance or whatever but it's not exactly what I'd call "realistic" melee fighting, they basically glue to you if you don't hit a prompt in the time the game wants you to,

it just adds unnecessary jank to an otherwise very fulfilling fighting system

It was like this in the first game, too. It immediately betrays how idiotic and shallow the combat is at its core - there's no physics, there's no depth, nothing exists in the actually physical world, it's just a series of mutually exclusive animations glued onto targets. The fact that you can't hit an enemy whilst they're mid-animation and that they slide across the screen to hit you makes the game feel cheap and janky.
