Is the game better than RDR2?
RDR2 is the only "realistic" open world game I've played. Is KCD2 better/more detailed?

KCD2 is up there with RDR2 - this one is first person and set in 1405.

not better but a great game nevertheless.
animals in rdr2 were incredible, it's not at this level, but the immersion is different too, fps vs 3rd person. also combat is not the same at all.
love both. if you want another experience like rdr2 this is not it (and there is no other game like rdr2 for now to be honest), but its a very good rpg!

Over 70 million units sold since late 2018. That's a fast train to try and catch.

RDR2 was pretty special. They did a lot of the little things much better than a smaller team could ever hope to. They knew they were going to sell tens of millions of copies and have ongoing multiplayer transactions, so they could afford to have a massive team of developers and actors to flush out the world. I have a hard time seeing the argument that KCD2 is a "better" game but people may have a preference for it

Both are the most immersive recent games I've played (there was Skyrim before that!)
They're kinda similar indeed, both look magnificent and compelling, with a ton of nice touches to put you in their atmosphere, but RDR2 is easier and way more forgetting, also it doesn't have much melee combat !
rdr2 is the only other game that has this level of immersion. it's much closer to kcd than for example morrowind or any other grandiose open-world rpg. i like them both but medieval setting is superior

Hard to say
I didnt like RDR2 that much... because of its open world i kinda didnt get anywhere...
meaning.. there was so much to do... the main story never got to me
its like the Ubisoft games... but at last they feal like its ok to skip all the side stuff

KCD is a slow game,
the enviromet is realy realisic...
if you go into the woods.. thy look like my woods outside in RL
many sights in the game you can visit today.. and they look very similar
some buildings still look the same.
Landscape looks the same in RL (some stuff is scaled down a bit ofc)
Villagers have a daylie life cycle, breakfast, work, entertainment, dinner sleep and so on..
they undress when go to sleep

armor and weapons are realistic (historical) but not 100% acurate.
You dont need quilted underarmor to ware platemail in RL but you need it in the game

water and rain could look better tho

I like KCD2
If you havent played.. go and play KCD1 1st

Both games are follow more or less the same gameplay philosophy, but RDR2 are the much more immersive and detailed desgined Leveldesgin / wordlbuilding, wildlife and NPCs as KcD2.

But on the end thats a apple and pear comparison, in that point that between RDR2 and KcD2 last but not least are an huge difference in budget and manpower in development.

But for the possibilities of warhorse studios and in relation to oportunities of Rockstar Studios is KcD2 magnificent good game and more ore less the "smaller and well developed medieval brother" of RDR2. ;-)

I thought KCD1 was better. A controversial opinion I know, but hear me out.

I played the hell out of KC:D1 while everyone else on the planet played RDR2 because I didn't have a console. So by the time RDR2 released on the PC I was so used to the complexities of the game mechanics in KC:D1 as enjoyable RDR2 was to play it just felt like a press X button simulator for simpletons.

agreed
Both are good, and in my top 10 list. I feel RDR2's open world is much more "gamified" however, with all the artificial open world activities. Like... you get markers for quests/activities all over the map without any logical reason. Sure, KCD2 has some map markers for quest givers and such before you discover them, but you have to at least discover the town they are in first. Also, KCD2 doesn't have a list of stuff you have to find to complete collections or whatever that feels just like open world Ubisoft garbage.

You didn't like the gambler challenge?
Not even close. This game is definitely up there but rdr2 is a phenomenal and it set a high bar.
not at all
Apples and Oranges - both are good.
