How does that even work bro
So in the stealing guild sword quest. somehow those npcs figured I stole it, but I was never actually seen. Yes, a woman was alerted when she saw an unlocked chest or door (I closed all doors) but she nor anyone saw me on my way out of the place. How did I fail?

I have no idea what you did. But you were supposed to take the sword from the wall and put it on another wall.
What chests?

the crime system isn't just a pass/fail check on if your seen in the moment of a crime. There is also a scale applied if your in or near a controlled (where you should not be, or have questionable access) area within a given time a crime could have happened. that later is noticed.

You see a stranger walk away from neighbors house, you didn't SEE them do anything. Something later is noticed missing, cops would be rather interested in your observation.

Occasionally this can get applied un-realistically due to many un-related private areas being in the middle of odd places, that will still trigger something that happened 3/4 a mile away.

Also there is a distinct chance the game cheats. There are no npc thieves, so there is no suspect list longer than one...ever. Nor do npc's outside of mutt ever trigger a private area. This could if coded improperly give un-realistic weight to targeted suspicion beyond stranger danger. In the real world getting away with something has near as much to do with manning constraints, logistics as it does with sneaky deaky. Game doesn't have that problem. In a city of thousands your still the only suspect if you trigger anything anywhere in the proper time frame.

So you was not seen, but the theft was noticed.
And then the Sword suddenly is at Wall in the City...

Maybe the NPCs are not dumb and counted 1+1?

Henry suddenly appears to help the German guys.
Suddenly the Sword disappears while there was a Thief in their Guild Hall.
Suddenly Henry is willing to fight for the Germans which he ALSO by pure luck shows on the crime scene with?

Weellllll......

I was never seen in the sword fighting club or whatever its called (the area with blue and red markers)
of course I know almost none of those thieving would work irl but this is just kcd. I dont expect them bots to be sherlock holmes.
It was the woman.

No traces is the only way, there are routes into that place where nobody should see/hear you at all.

You should just take the sword no walking out with 300 lbs of gear.

Honestly don't think there is a reason for it, I've done it at night and in the day, and no matter what i did with 30 Stealth at the time and 30 Thievery and nobody saw me, I still got "Noticed". I'm pretty sure it's scripted. To make the tournament harder.

it doesn't have to be at or near the club, if you hit a completely different pa or didn't have a torch (or mutt derped somewhere he shouldn't) you were suspicious(and get flagged for that) in the right time frame even if it's a completely different area of the city. No one else in the city is suspicious, if it's not coded to account for that "army of one"....try try again.

You have to wear inconspicuous clothing at the time you are snooping around. Mine is 16.
If you don't, and get a walking rabbit during the burglary, they will remember you and link you to the crime.

BTW, in the sword theft mission they specifically ask you to refrain from stealing anything else. Same with the "brown breeches" quest.

Its not scripted, in my first playthrough I hadnt got a stealth build yet so I just cheated with invisibility and got out while searching the whole club and I wasnt discovered.
as to the white rabbit I did got it since that woman found out that unlocked chest but again I wasn't seen at all at any time in the club so this part got me frustrated.
The crime and statistics mechanic will need rebalancing.
