How to get gunpowder to use a gun

The gunpowder is baked into the ammo. When you craft 'gunpowder' at the alchemy bench, it actually just creates lead shot bullets.

So you just need the gun and ammo.

Gun ammo (lead ball / scattershot) comes with included gunpowder. Each single ammunition comes with enough gunpowder to fire it.
You can craft more at alchemy benches after learning the recipes (you can buy them from the Gunsmith in Kuttenberg) - but this should only be done while drunk.

Just speculating buuut.... Are you aware that you need to hold the reload button for the entire ~30 seconds while the animation plays out? Not just press it?

Just sell the gun. They're all practically useless. The only reason to own guns is because you're waiting for the stolen icon to go away after stealing 15 of them from the gun shop in Kuttenberg.
