One Handed Swords vs Dogs/Wolves - Bug Report
One handed swords don't seem to have the expected reach when fighting wolves and wild dogs.

One handed sword fail to swing, or fails to show the swing animation, about half the time when attacking.

One handed sword fail to hit wolves or wild dogs when swinging while running, even though the animation shows contact.

Current workarounds:
- Use another weapon.(Such as a 2h sword)
- Perform a bait and switch such that you block and then attack the target off angle.(Probably has to do with hitbox.)

My arm length plus my sword length magically gets made very short when i attack them. Love the game but stuff like this feels kinda bad.

To be clear, the effective strike range of a 1 handed sword against a dog is about 18 inches from Henry's chest. It is like his arm and sword magically got shrunk. Maybe this is some kind of hitbox issue.

Is there some reason that sword strikes against wolves or dogs are practically worthless? Half the time, Henry refuses to swing the sword, and the other half the time you are somehow out of reach while right up against the thing. A dog has two to three times the effective reach of a full length war sword. I assume this is some kind of bug.

Little hint: Do not strike the dog. Wait until it attacks you, repel the attack and THEN strike.
Do this twice and the dog or wolf is down.
Yes hard to hit at range you have to be right on top of them. Otherwise you are stuck with bow or riposte. Riposte and swing right after quickly. usually a 1 or a 2 hit with better swords

Thank you for the work around.
But they really ought to fix the bug instead of trying to train people to avoid the bug.

This happens at the start when you don't have enough stamina and armor. Later on you can let it bite and kill a wolf in 2 swings after. The range of the hunting swords is not the problem.

I am not talking about a hunting sword. I am talking about one of the tier 3 war-swords you can pick up at the blacksmith. The point is that there is no logical reason that should require the player to wait for the wolf or wild dog to strike first.

I have answered your thread, why are you still discussing ?

Your answer to the thread was to ignore the bug report and pretend like it isn't a problem. Which I guess is an answer, just not a great one.

Because this is not a bug. You are not supposed to fight dogs and wolves like this lol

But why? You have a sword, which should reasonably be able to reach the target. Why should dogs be given a magical range modifier that breaks immersion?

Because dogs and wolves are much faster than humans and will always evade your sword if you try to close in and hit it.
It would be way too easy if you can just run up to them and slaughter them, lol.

You are supposed to repel them and then slash.

But whatever dude.

The real advantage of wolves and dogs are their numbers. All they would need to do to keep them a challenge while not breaking reality would be to increase the aggressiveness of their swarm behavior. Then they would actually be scary, and not just a gimmicky "Learn the special non-immersive technique" kind of enemy.

Yet they are faster...and outnumber you. Suck it up.

While I will take that under advisement, I will leave this bug report up. Thank you for your time.
