Henry's new face...
So I kickstarted the first game. I admit that I dragged my feet to finish it since it's been done since... yesterday. Yes, 7 years and 60 hours this week later I finally finished it, and it was incredible. I obviously immediately followed up with this new opus and although it has many qualities, I remain shocked, obsessed by a point as visible as the nose in the middle of the face... Henry's new face.

On KCD1 the face is extremely faithful to the actor (Tom), the facial expressions and body gestures are numerous, we see the eyebrows rise, the forehead wrinkle, the expressions pass fluidly on the face, the eyes live, express all the emotions.

In KCD2, I don't understand, because it's obviously a complete regression: in addition to having a quasi-immobile body, planted there like a stake with very few gestures, Henry's face is frozen. First, he's frozen in a basic grumpy attitude, which is surprising. Then the features are rigid, no more prominent cheekbones, no more wrinkled forehead. And above all, the eyes. The eyes are completely drained of all life, when they're not globular and popping out of his head, and it's even worse when they don't even look at their interlocutor. There's no longer the fluidity, the animation, the realism that was the first attempt of KCD1. I don't understand. What happened? And how come, while we have him in front of us in all these dialogue scenes, almost no one has yet pointed out this difference, which personally greatly harms my immersion, especially since I'm just going from the first game to the second? For those who have finished the first one too long ago to detect this difference, trust the nightmares at the beginning of the game: these are excerpts from the first game and even there, we can clearly see the difference in Henry's gestures, life, and animation.

And even if it's "a detail" in absolute terms, all of this is still well below the performance that The Witcher 3 delivered at this level, the restitution of the range of emotions.

What do you think?
