So much drinking in this game
is it just me or is the amount if drinking ridicilous, both in main story and side content. It just feels like a bit too much. Hell there are entire quests which are all about drinking even the one with the cumans.

Yes there is lots of drinking. Not it's not too much
I think this is a pretty realistic depiction of everyday life at that time.

I mean think about it. several hundred(or thousand) peeps living by a body of water, dumping all knows what with absolutely no filtration ......at......... all......yea I'd drink alot too, and it wouldn't be water. I wouldn't even trust boiled with that mess...desitlled or nothing mate. The people who weren't alcoholics are dead. there is kinda a reason brewing is probably older than writing.

Alcoholic drinks were the only bacteria free way to hydrate at the time...so while it wasn't understood that anything cooked could achieve this, what was known is that only beer and wine didn't make people sick - which is why thin beer was even given to babies. On top of that noone had to stay sober to drive or operate machinery - so I would expect people to essentially always be buzzed or drunk in the middle ages...
On top of what everyone else has pointed out, don't forget that alcohol in times past was significantly weaker than it is today. a beer wouldn't reach 2% from the brewing techniques they used, wine wouldn't reach 5%, so really could and would be drunk like water.

ayupo and guess what most monasteries spent the lions share of time doing...it wasn't praying, it was brewing. And as he said alchy content wasn't super high but in most recipe's back then, calories were NOT less filling it wasn't just for hydration. Food storage & distribution, wasn't all that great back then either. Yanks think Europeans drink thick beers now...you have no idea. Compared to just about any other option available, a beer was a health shake by comparison. Beer was a staple long before bread rice or corn alone ever was, on any continent.

Life was so hard for common people it was probably a relief to get drunk.
Have you been to Europe? The amount of drinking in this game is fairly standard, even today
Historically, people avoided water due to parasites and the inability to purify and clean the water themselves. Alcohol was a drink that was guaranteed not to kill you so it was preferred as a drink to soothe thirst.

In the old west days a shot of whiskey was cheaper than a glass of CLEAN water. Think about that.

This is true, but its worth noting the beer they drank instead of water was pretty weak. They weren't smashed *all* the time.
