You talking about Gringolet? I stole and claimed it after doing his quest and have used it no trouble for about 30 hours.

I forgot to mention beforehand it's most likely because you finished his quest, 100%. I forgot to mention I killed him for his kit so the probably led to the crashes with his horse :(
