What is "Styes" - lost in translation....

Talked with NPC about Saltpetre, she mentioned they cleaned all the "Styes" in the region....

I'm not familiar with the word, and dictionary told me its an eye infection....Could someone explain to me what could that mean in the context of harvesting Saltpetre? Thanks
