Combat against 4 bandits is retarded
In any training I can win without taking a scratch. However, I take 10 steps outside any town and there are 4 master swordsmen, full plate armor bandits who will immediately attack me.

While I am fighting one of them, the other 3 surround me and hit me from the sides and back, killing me in about 5 seconds.

How is this supposed to be fun?

There's two kinds of people. Those who find combat to be too easy and those who find it to be unfair.
how could I forget that bandits- outlaws, murderers, and brigands for an occupation, loved to give everyone they met fair fights and came at them one after another?!

Only if the player is highly regarded
i mean if your main level is way higher then your combat then yes you will get fugged in this case i highly recomend getting a brave horse a pole arm and using horse combat. sounds like you did the cardinal sin of leveling craftsman and alchemy with no combat training.

Backpedal...constantly. Have your dog distract at least one you are not fighting. Do not swing, stay defensive and master strike. If you run out of stamina perfect block without riposte till it comes back. Also riposte sparingly as it is often blocked anyways. Wish you didn't HAVE to use swords and could master strike with axes or maces but yeah I have found basically you gotta use a sword to take a larger group.

i dont think it was designed with "being fun" in mind. you handle it by backpedalling constantly, and using strategic dodges to create space when they start to flank you.

When you have most of the combat perks you can one or 2 hit most stuff, and it becomes a bit more "fun", dashing in and clearing out the weaker ones so you can focus on duelling the tougher enemies, but being surrounded at any level of prowess will end with you being killed rapidly.

I do agree that the general level of bandit armament, especially in the early game, is difficult to deal with. coupled with your inability to hold a bow steady or perform masterstrikes rapidly a lot of the combat turns into running until all but one or 2 give up.

It gets easier, but it never becomes easy enough that you can just wander into multiple combatants without care, even with the best equipment the game has to offer.
Level of your dog, just pet him and feed him whenever Henry gets hungry.

Dont be afraid to send out a few cheap shots with a bow from a distance.

If its a camp, lure one away at a time. You will have a geat set of gear after 2-3 camps.

Shield lowers the stamina costs of blocking but if you utilize dodges they are often better until you unlock some combat perks.

Head protection is important. Blunt melee weapons at early game do a ton of damage against the little-nothing most enemies wear. Blades/slashing performs poorly against the early game gear but get better as the armor tiers plateau in strength. This applies to you.

Two most dangerous weapons to you early on are blunt (as above) and enemies wielding one-handed swords with one-hand. Try to take them out first. Their animations for using a Falchion, for instance, are faster and harder to block if they do not have a shield. Henry does not seem to benefit much from this although there is a perk or two related.

If you are not comfortable with positioning and the combat in general, you really shouldnt be getting into fights with 4 'full plate bandits' (which is a wild exaggeration by the way). Even when you are you will have learned that, rightfully so, 1 guy fighting 4 other guys... well, he is in trouble. Skill issue. You can run you know.

By the way, dodge is really good.

Appreciate the useful feedback!

Anyone know where the "running backwards" trainer is located?? Lol

Yeah, maybe not "full plate", but I am thinking if they are really that hard up to be camping by the side of the road, they could sell a piece of armor.

you really wouldn't have liked KCD1.
You could get gang banged by a mob of peasants. They don't even surround or flank you in this game
Audentes Fortuna iuvat !
Just train with tomcat and this game becomes easy mode, actually too easy :sakurabeachmomokolaugh:
This's an example of a skill issue, I've taken on over 7 bandits at once, it's all about taking your time.

If you can't win a straight up fight you could try other methods like running away, stealth or just surrendering and paying a toll.

I think as your combat level gets higher it gets easier but personally I find it refreshing that I can't just steamroll any encounter and need to find other methods of dealing with things.

I think too many games these days focus too much on the power fantasy to the point where the player is trained to believe that they should be able to take on any encounter, that all fights are winnable because they are the protagonist, it is nice to have a game that does not do that.
