Theft

So I snuck in a house, stole some stuff while everyone was asleep and left without getting caught. Next morning I'm automatically labelled a thief. Is this some kind of bug ?

Are you displaying stolen goods in some way or were you seen near the scene of the crime?

What did you expect? Who did you think they would blame instead of the newcomer? If you steal something, you either stash it somewhere until things quiet down or you get rid of it in some other place where they won't recognize it. You do NOT wander back into the same damn village like an idiot the very next morning.

Have you been spotted by someone outside around the house at the time of the theft?
have you stolen something to wear and then equipped it while still in the town/village where you stole it?

Imagine what would happen in real life. The local bailiff, after hearing something got stolen, would go around and ask people "did you notice anything suspicious last night?". Someone says "well, now that you mention it, I've lived in this village for 35 years and yesterday I saw a stranger for the first time in over a year". Someone else says the same thing. Next morning, by astonishing coincidence, some stranger matching their description comes strutting back into the village.

Put yourself in their shoes, who do you think they would blame?

And just to be clear, I've stolen tens of thousands worth of groshen in the game and never been accused of anything. The system is working, you just have to be a little bit smarter and more careful than the average thug.

Literally no one saw me or spoke to me at the time of the theft. Was totally unseen, undetected during the theft and my exit from the area.

Even ingame hints tell you NPCs can figure out crimes without directly witnessing them
