My paint has gone missing

I had started the quest to paint the bull, but got sidetracked for a few days after making the paint with the tailor, and one day the paint is just removed from my inventory. What happened and can I get it back without having to load a previous save and lose all my progress after that?

I actually saw it disappear. There was a notification on screen that said something like it was removed from my inventory. It was right when I reloaded from a save I think.

I'll try the console command I think. I tried asking the tailor again but there was no option available to ask him about it.
