did kcd2 brick my pc?? (SOLVED, thank you all)
***EDIT***thank you all so much for your help and suggestions. this is my first time doing a real troubleshoot so i appreciate everyone being patient and helpful. shout out to steam forums you all rock. for those curious i think what happened was i had a power surge which short circuited my pc in some way. but after discharging my system, reseting my bios, and installing one ram at a time (all things i didn't know about) i got back in. now going to do temperature checks and cap my frame rate (more things i didn't know). thank you all so much and lmk if you have any other suggestions.***

hey there, i am not well versed in pc troubleshooting and would appreciate some help:

about 20 hours into the game my pc randomly shut down completely, which was the first time i've ever had something weird like that happen (i noticed the surge protector shut off as well). i turned it back on and everything seemed fine, except a couple hours later my pc shut down, but this time for good. when i turn my computer on now only the ram and little gpu leds turn on and the motherboard switches between the DRAM and CPU warning lights. the fans of the liquid cooler turn on but not the led or anything. my ram is in the a2 and b2 slots.

if there's a better place for me to seek help please let me know

here's my pc specs:
*AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
*MSI MAG CORELIQUID 360R V2 78.73 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
*Gigabyte X670 GAMING X AX V2 ATX AM5 Motherboard

*XFX Speedster MERC 310 Black Edition Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card
*Montech SKY TWO ATX Mid Tower Case
*be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
*Acer VG271U M3bmiipx 27.0" 2560 x 1440 180 Hz Monitor

its possible your PSU died and it's just coincidence, I would get your mobo manual to see what the lights you're seeing indicate.
Very hard to say what caused this based on what you describe. Its unlikely the sole case was the game. There are, as far as i know, no reports on KCD2 bricking anything. However the game wich is a bit demanding could have been something that broke a weak link in your system or your system would have failed anyway, it was just KCD2 that was the unlucky game that was running when it happened.

Hope you figure this out. Good luck.

A place to start with support is the Gygabyte site. Those motherboard lights you mentioned are usually indicative of something beyond any software issue since the OS hasn't even loaded yet.

thank you for the comment. i think that's the best bet, that this game happened to push something else over the edge. my pc isn't even a year old yet though, could it really be that something failed? i guess this isn't kcd2 territory anymore so i should seek help elsewhere. thanks again

is it possible for a psu to die after less than a year? if that's a dumb question sorry i have no experience with this kind of stuff, just disappointed because of how expensive the pc was

"(i noticed the surge protector shut off as well)" is this the one the PC is plugged into ie a mains one. If that is the case the Mains surge has probably done your PC Power Supply.
Not heard of a Surge Protector actually in a PC, possibly PSU but that still means the PSU is likely toast.

thanks for commenting!

for clarification i meant the pc is plugged into an external surge protector (couldn't reach a wall socket). so you're saying its likely the surge protector broke the psu? would that make sense if the pc can still sort of half way turn on?

is there something i can do to avoid this happening again or is it like a normal pc thing?

thank you

it is possible for PSU's to fail that early, not really likely, but possible, but the fact that your surge protector was off likely indicates a power problem which may have caused the PSU or mobo to fail. I would definitely start with finding out what the mothboard lights are indicating, going to your manufacturers website/forums like that other person mentioned would be the best place to start.
Defo a CPU or RAM issue, most likely RAM
Reset your BIOS (remove the small CR battery for a minute), remove RAM and reseat 1 stick only, and try to boot

Have you tried capping your frame rate using the Adrenalin app? You may just be getting too many fps at a single point and the game just simply bricks the PC. This happens with some games, and it is why i always cap my FPS.

When the surge protector got triggered you had a short circuit in your system. Disconnect your system from power, press the power switch on your PSU - after that press the power button on your case to discharge your sytem - and check the tubes of your warercooling system. Check if they are dry or slightly wet. But be carefull to not pull them out accidently.

if it turns out that it was a power surge, I would make sure the outlet you're plugging into isn't providing "dirty" power. most PSU's are capable of regulating dirty power to keep the delivery consistent. I'm not an expert I just read something regarding this when my own PSU died. Otherwise it could have just been a quality control issue and you just had a bad board or something.
