Jan of Lesztin - unbeatable somehow?

Hi, I don't understand this fight - I've checked online and everyone is mostly complaining that fight is too easy. I don't get it, because I'm having the opposite problem.
Maybe my level is too low (19. I think, 23 for the slash weapons or how is it in english), but I don't think so. Every fight so far has been easy, but this one is taking me now over an hour.

I gave up beating him with hunting sword - longest attempt took 20+ minutes during which I gave him maybe 50 or more master strikes. HOW MANY ARE NEEDED!! At that point I gave up and now I'm trying mace (which I haven't used at all until this point, so I don't have it leveled up), but same result so far .. especially since it's much easier for him to hit me when using mace and 1 hit = instant lose.

I just don't get it. Is it a bug? Has it somehow changed with the new patch? What am I doing wrong?

Btw. I think those stats and the buffs are so artificial - just to make use of the Aseop potion to get rid of them to pick some other perks - afaic it's dumb.

Thats my thought that players come there way to early because i beat the guy in 2-8 seconds on all 4 playthroughs. He is a lame "bossfight". Even on hardcore mode I trashed him in under 5 seconds.
