With his armor on, he is very resilient (as in, I do not think I met a more resilient opponent in the game yet, especially as if he manages to hit you once, he basically wins the duel).
It gets kind of boring chaining masterstrike after masterstrike, so a charged attack here and there also helps a bit, but after a few minutes he did concede (though my swordsmanship is at 30 and my level around 25+ I think, so I guess if you have a lower skill with fewer perks, this can get really awful).
Without his armor (which requires a speech high enough - I also have 30), one masterstrike and the duel is over (and hopefully he does not die, such as with a well placed opener with a mace or an axe).
I initially started with an axe but between unwittingly killing him or getting wrecked, I went back to take a hunting sword stored in my chest, that I had to craft for a blacksmith competition (named competition sword or something), which was "henry's crafted", so also helped the damage output a bit compared to a basic hunting sword regarding the armored fight.
I used horseman's pick with strong bane poison effect. I hit him on the head for one strike and won the duel.
And after the duel, he died after chatting with me for several sentences (I guess it was because of the poison on my weapon....)
It looks like it could be a bug...
Dude is super random but you gotta be really, really bad not be able to beat him :D
Issue with all combat in the game, unfortunately is that it doesn't take the first input so during any quest combat you get instantly attacked and the block button doesn't even work yet. It's super ♥♥♥♥
It sucks, and it's annoying - but wear some plate and it compensates it
I don't know if using the hunting sword makes him unbeatable .
So, yea, blunt damage fixes it - unfortunately KCD2 did a really bad job in promoting those weapons.
Once you get a proper sword, it's tremendously effective even against armour, which, in my book, kinda sucks as it takes away the necessity of other weapons
You can't use plate when fighting Jan of Lesztin. And considering that for some players, he is immune to master strikes (due to a bug probably), and he can win the duel by masterstriking you one or two times. So no, he ain't super easy.
Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about.
No duel is ever hard in either games
