Blacksmithing after patch 1.2.1
I am having skill issues with smithing after patch. I have skill 30 + apron + potion, but Henry will fail forging swords even when hitting melody, no same spot twice etc. Quality drops from t4 to t2 even.. Is it just for me? I tried it with mod that speeds it up and then it is ok just bcs I do not have to reheat or hit same spot twice.

I've tried smithing swords after patch and am experiencing the exact same. Admittedly, I have craftsmanship skill 27 but never struggled before with any other sword except Radzig's. Now, even a simple duelling longsword feels like it's Radzig's. Managed to make one t3 quality after a couple tries, but t4 seems impossible now at first glance.

They said they raised difficulty, fine. But my issue is that it's entirely unclear to me what I'm doing wrong, so I can't improve. Like you, I avoid hitting the same spots, I flip the sword regularly (though I've read that isn't even necessary), and I heat it up before it cools down too much. Only thing I've noticed is that sometimes hitting it doesn't produce the correct sound, as if I didn't wait long enough even when I have. But that's an issue I've had before patch as well and seems to be a sort of bug that mostly happens at the upper and lower ends of the sword. It seems just avoiding those and hitting mostly the middle parts produces better results and a higher chance to at least make a t3. Other than that, no idea what to do. Frustrated by this.

I'm confused as to what the devs are thinking. Players have had numerous complaints about certain difficulties in the game, and I agree that the devs have made certain things needlessly frustrating sometimes...So why the hell do they think they need to keep adding difficulty? The game wasn't too easy before, blacksmithing wasn't too easy, it was mostly fine as is imo.

I had an issue with t4 stuff awhile ago and people in the discord were saying for t4, you're not allowed to reheat your weapons. So keep pounding even if it starts getting cold, as long as there is a spot on the metal that produces good sparks and sound - once you reheat it you lose t4.

"ere saying for t4, you're not allowed to reheat your weapons. / once you reheat it you lose t4." " that is not true:)

Before patch (i finished whole game before 1.2) I have no problem to forge T4 weapons, only once it failed from like 10 weapons, most probably because of my mistake. And yes I reheat it, of course I did, because when you hit iron which is not hot enough it will fail, same as when it is too hot.

It is actually not that hard :) I totally ignoring whispering, just hitting from top to bottom step by step, rotate it and again, easy peasy with high perk.

Blacksmithing is terrible now. Henry keeps saying "I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up". I've never made a single mistake and T4s were easy until after patch 1.2. This bothered me so much, I stopped doing endgame stuff.

Exactly both of these things I'm finding frustrating too. I wouldn't mind an increase in the difficulty given how powerful upper-tier weapons are, but I'd at least like to know what I am doing wrong or what I need to correct more accurately, otherwise it feels like I'm being punished for arbitrary mistakes I don't even know I'm making.

I'd also agree that before the update tier 4 was reasonably hard to do, without seeming impossible. It really sucks from my perspective that now such a cool and fun minigame seems to have been made heavily more difficult, without any changes to the in-game feedback you get on how to do better?

It's not game-ruining, but it is enough for me to get frustrated enough to close the game and have to come back to it again later- which I hate, because I was really enjoying this game without any gripes whatsoever until the update came around.
Seems working as before. You are doing it wrong I guess ?

What I do: Heating at max before burning the whole blade. Hitting it at same speed and moving the blade very a little between each hit. Don't move the sword too much and it should be good.

Seems same to me. Always T4. So, yeah guys, you are doing it wrong. Maybe you are making enough sparks or you move too much the weapon ?

I was referring to Henrys sword(Radzeg) and I tried it multiple times. It seems weirldy off.. I got "messed" warning almost always on both ends, sometimes elsewhere even when sound of hitting it nice and sparks are present, it was never this "hard" even when I was skill 16 and tried to reforge it before.. I waited till endgame to skillup, prepare and now it is worse. Always lightly yellow heated at start, same pace, never hitting same spot on each turn, pacing steadily, etc. And when I finish it I get two swords not just one.. One is "made by Henry" other one is generic. Do not tell me that it is not a bug.

Hmm, don't know. Just tried to reforge it in an old save, before the ending: Got tier 3, that's the max I can get as it's still quest marked. So it seems ok.

Maybe it's bugged when it's "Henry's sword" but it's too long for me to even try. (Because my old save is at first time you get to Suchdol lol)

Max is t4. I got it after twenty attempts(or one with mod that i tried), but it was not as easy as on skill 16.

Yeah, maxi is T4 but not on weapon with the quest mark.

Ofc, but t3 can be made even with "some" errors like not heating it properly etc. So please try t4 when you have the chance to do so.

I could with a mod that remove the quest mark. Will do later and let you know
So, I reforged it first time tier 4 without any problem.
