62 GB update seriously!?
I'm tired of the developers laziness lately. If you can't manage to do an update, what's the point of trying to download the whole game from scratch? Will we have to download the game multiple times after every update from now on?

large games require large updates, it has nothing to do with "developer laziness"

anyone that says that has absolutely no clue how development works

Well that includes you then obviously. Large games do not necessarily need large patches every time an update drops. It's all to do with how the game is packaged and distributed. BG3 had the same issue and then Larian repackaged the install so patched files could usually be downloaded on a smaller scale. Educate yourself before accusing others of ignorance.

370 jester lol
Considering the amount of changes in this patch, I am euphoric about the patch
Pipe down, the developers have said that they have been working on this update since November. They preferred to get a polished game out without bugs instead of delaying it. Maybe delete your VR pron game to make space. Chill.

I'll give you credit where credit is due, while I dont care about the update size, what you are saying is true.

bg3 doesn't use cryengine
People are angry because the developers are fixing the game and doing their job.... If you've looked through the patch notes you'd know that a lot of quests needed fixing, so you have to replace files that often take up a lot of space. I'm shocked that there are people who don't understand this, and the fact that they got a complete patch instead of a 30mb patch that doesn't change anything makes them have a tantrum because they have to download several tens of GB.

What are you talking about, I have 3TB NVM SSD and I don't have any space problem. Is that what you understand from reading it?
62GB is a small patch
It is because of the packaging, archiving method the update itself is much smaller. The archive .pak of every changed file needs to be replaced. They could technically patch it in however that would require unpack the file locally and repack it and instead of downloading it that requires a lot more of your drives. as in Input output (IO) Even worse if it is archive in archive.

Steam does not allow that method native as far as I am aware thus it would require a separate updating application to be packaged with the game to circumvent that. Or the developers need use a difference archive type or simply smaller packages mitigating it to some extent.

There are pro and cons to them all and you can not make everyone happy in any of these options.

Here is a list of what is actually changed.

it actually does, compressing a game isn't a one click button task, devs today simply don't and you deal with the ludicrous storage size requirements... - that's because new hardware can deal with uncompressed, that doesn't mean it should become a standard... Yet, the uncompressed madness didn't start now, it has been an ongoing issue for several years, and it has become so absurd that some game owners are often using cracked repacks because of the absurd download sizes which become not viable depending on internet connection quality.

this game is compressed, every game is, if it wasn't it would be several tbs in size

higher quality assets take up more space, it's basic stuff
