Things happen, but the truth is they wouldn't have announced a release year if they weren't ready to release. There was literally no one pushing them to do it. The isn't a publisher on their ass. So they announced because they have it done the degree required for release. This isn't a cyberpunk situation, no one was even expecting this game until they announced it in the same breath as the release year.

I don't know what happened with CP77, but I do know there were complaints about chopping up the game in the final stages to get it to run (with some small degree of brief success) on PS4 and Xbone. Whether that reason is valid or a weak excuse is something I wouldn't know.

I can only hope that KCD2 won't try to hold itself back, but if it's releasing on consoles and they designed it around PC, I'd rather they take the BG3 approach and delay the troublesome platforms rather than delay everyone, but still, I don't know the ins-and-outs of publishing requirements for $ony and M$ platforms (and I can't make any sense to publishing on NTDOY platforms which I hope isn't even a remote consideration for KCD2 at this time).

I know exactly what happen to CP77, it was a plethora of problems. Before it's release they went through 3 different directors, and a number of different teams. The actual teams that did end up working on it at the end were 1st year programmers spread among 77 studios. Every time they switched to a new director they had a new idea about what the game should be which is why it turned out to be a hybrid between GTA and like 3 other styles. And if all of that wasn't enough they were told upon launch that it was not anywhere near ready, and they still decided to release it in a completely terrible state. And if all of that wasn't enough, they used an outdated engine(red engine) that was a decade old, that they claimed was the best design engine even though no matter which game they used it on, it came with its own problems and bugs that were profoundly gamebreaking.

It's ready, they wouldn't even announce it if it weren't ready for release when they announced.
