For a lot of people piracy is a convenience thing and not about getting it for free. I remember reading an article in which Gabe Newell stated how people warned him about expanding Steam to Russia, as they'd just continue to pirate. However it turned out that wasn't the case and they are now one of the biggest European markets on this platform.
I disagree to some extent. I think there are more honest gamers out there than you think. With so many studios out and out declaring that they hate my guts (because I'm an evil white male colonizer who ain't down with Marx), Warhorse is one of the few studios I still have faith in. A lot of that obviously stems from Daniel Vavra and his staunch refusal to let the woke mind virus infect his company (looking at you, CDPR). I imagine a lot of gamers feel that way. In any event, I really really really want them to do well and be successful so maybe one day I'll get a KCD3 or some other historical game. It's why I pre-ordered, and I never ever pre-order as a rule.
