Crime and branding

so, I did this stupid quest to steal documents and somehow I was seen? (no clue by whom, I left the village without being detected, seems like game just wants to punish me). So, does it go away? I don't want to ruing my experience by getting branded in the early game as it will stick with me and fine they want is ridiculously high. Does the jail icon go away? Anything I can do?

From what I’ve read, it can take upwards of 5-7 days.

I have a 106,000k bounty on me in the major city for stealing everything. I’m never going back, they ain’t gonna get me.

If you get branded, pretty sure that's permanent, though I could be wrong. Anything less than that can be forgiven by pilgrmage or paying a penance at a church. Normally you can avoid being branded by paying the fine or just staying away until people forget about you. If you doin't want to carry that with you, load back an earlier save.

Pro tip: While people complain about saviour schnapps.... You can abuse the exit save feature to save whenever you want, with the only catch that you can only keep one exit save. Until I was able to craft more potions, I heavily abused this to avoid losing progress.

Lol thats actually impressive. I haven't been branded but from the perks I have seen it sounds like it goes away eventually and can be sped up with a perk

An icon appears on the map if you're wanted somewhere. If the icon is gone it's safe to go there.

It doesn't exactly matter if they seen you, it doesn't work like that in this game unfortunately. Maybe someone seen you going somewhere you shouldn't be (private areas, suspicious behaviour (the orange rabbit), wandering around without torch, all qualities of a thief). Now you might have waited 30 seconds-1 minute they left and you went back for a second try, but the game has a hidden mechanic and the npcs remember the suspicious activity. Now in the morning they check their stuff, see something is missing, put 2 and 2 together (real detective work) and voila, you are the thief. It does eventually go away and i'll tell you the truth, i found out about this the hard way, exactly the same way you did !
