Crashing PC GPU to black screen, nothing helps
I'm 30+ hours into the game, and first 20 hours did not experience any performance problems at all, running ultra settings — but now I'm getting crash every 10 minutes. Sometimes it happens even a few minutes after loading a game, sometimes lets me play for 20 minutes.

These are not desktop or BSOD crashes — my GPU just turns off like it malfunctions, leaving black screen with no signal, with no message or error log. I still have some sound in my headphones for some time afterwards, but cannot restart GPU without restarting the whole PC, so that's what I do each time.

My setup is Nvidia 3070 Ti (8 GB), Intel i9-12900KF, 96 GB DDR5, M.2 SSD Samsung 980PRO. And this type of crashes I have only in KCD2 — not a single time in any other game.

What I tried:

1. First I checked if it overheats or anything. Nope, running at 82-83 °C.

2. Reinstalled Nvidia drivers, got the latest 572.24 version.

3. Used MSI Afterburner to scan my setup for productivity issues. It saw that setup lacks voltage (that's how I interpret the "Dominant limiter: Voltage" and "Results are considered unstable" messages). I applied the recommended curve for voltage and clock management.

I also tried several times to monitor GPU and CPU temperatures, voltage etc, but saw no sudden spikes or reaching extreme values there.

4. Since my DLSS was already disabled (I was running natively), I tried subsequentially turning FSR on, disabling Vsync, changing FPS lock, lowering graphics quality to medium.

5. Checked the integrity of Steam files.

6. Reinstalled MS C++ redistributables.

Game keeps crashing.

So far I haven't found any solution. The only thing I didn't do is reinstall the game.

I would try using older nvidia drivers, those 572.16 are mess. I am also playing on old ones, zero issues. You can simply rollback driver in device manager, it takes like 2 seconds.

So, I started having the same issue today, played for around 30 hours without any crashes or issues (nvidia 5080, ryzen7 9800x3d) and suddenly the GPU started disconnecting after playing for around ~20min.

What seems to have fixed it for me: I uninstalled reshade for KCD2, disabled DLSS and capped the fps in the nvidia control panel to 90. Since then no more crashes, tested for 2 hours so far, might help anyone else out.

this one seemed to work for me

83C shoudnt be a problem.
mine ran at that before i had a watercooler. now it stays around 60 with peaks going 65.
but maybe it is over heating.
I use "MSI Afterburner" to control my GPU fans.
I have an RTX 2070 Super (8 GB) video card.

When I play this game, I use manual mode (in MSI Afterburner) and set my GPU fans to about 90% to 95%. Yes, it's a bit louder, but I wear headphones for the game anyway, and it keeps my GPU temperature below 80°C

Add a similar issue with my RTX 2060 Super, downgrading my gpu driver to the 560.94 version seem to have fixed it

It's obviously a (you) problem with the video card overheating, 82-83 °C IS overheating you numb skull the driver cut off is at 90C where it panic and turn off
85 °C is a normal temp for a GPU under load.
7900xt same thing happened 3 times in a row after 35 hours of no issues. 3rd time i thought my computer started in safe mode, but it would only run in 800x600 resolution and had to uninstall all drivers and reinstall them.
same here, and only with KCD2. There are no prolems with the pc. Did a 3DMark stress test and it was good. No other games give me this problem. I watch temps and they stay at 60°.
Problems started for me too after about 50 hours of no issues. have had like 4 soft crashes and 2 black screen reset pc ones. Temperatures arent insanely hot i think for GPU or CPU. GPU has max temp of 76 with hot spot at 91.

OP reporting here. Problem disappeared two days ago after I've minned graphics settings. Probably was VRAM leak. Then Feb 13 Nvidia driver update came along and now I'm playing max settings with no problems. Still no update from the devs.
Happening to me too, I've tried all that you have done above, and also downloaded the NVIDIA hotfix, this doesnt seem like a hardware issue, something is going on with the game. It only started to happen to me once it was nighttime and pulled a torch out, after that I've had trouble since. Very annoying because I was having so much fun. Now it just blacks out my computer, I cant restart, I need to power it off from the switch. Its really annoying, hope they figure it out.

With hotspot at 91... the driver shut everything down in panic at 90

*Tap the sign*
Black screen is caused by hardware failure or shutdown. It's impossible for a game to cause hardware to fail if it was fine before, if the hardware is failing it's because of the hardware or faulty drivers.
Shutdowns are typically done when driver failsafes are activated due to things such as dangerously high temps which threaten to damage the component.
Hey everyone! after trying everything, I downloaded an Nvidia driver from a few versions ago (version 565.90) and i have played for hours since. I tried everything you can read on how to troubleshoot it, and nothing worked! but thankfully I kept trying previous versions of the driver until one finally worked. Havnt had an issue since! Nvidia needs to figure something out here
